Kolkata Hindus Protest Killing of Hindu Man in Bangladesh, Suvendu Adhikari Leads Rally Near Deputy High Commission.

Shantanu Bhattacharya | HENB | Kolkata | Dec 22, 2025:: Senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, on Monday led a massive protest near the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata against the killing of a Bengali Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, in Mymensingh of neighbouring Bangladesh.

The protest rally began at Nizam Palace and culminated at Beckbagan, where around 5,000 BJP supporters squatted on the road, raising slogans and condemning what they described as the “lynching” of Dipu Das in Mymensingh on the night of December 18. According to reports, Das was beaten to death and his body was later set on fire.

Many sadhus (monks) and activists of Hindu organisations and BJP supporters joined the rally with saffron flags. Interestingly, no flag of the BJP was seen in the rally.

Addressing the gathering, Adhikari demanded stringent punishment for those responsible and accused the Bangladesh administration of failing to protect its Hindu minority.

“We want strict punishment for all those involved in the murder of Dipu Das. Attacks and atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh must stop immediately. We will not allow to sit the Deputy High Commissioner in his office if there is no end to this violence and we will return to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission with 10,000 people on December 26 again,” Adhikari warned.

He also announced statewide protests, stating that Hindu organisations would block roads across West Bengal, specially at border areas on December 24 to register their anger over the killing.

During the demonstration, protesters also burned an effigy of Md Yunus, head of the interim government in Bangladesh, accusing the regime of turning a blind eye to targeted violence against Hindus.

Security was tightened in the area as police personnel were deployed in large numbers to prevent any untoward incident near the diplomatic establishment.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee leaders and party activists also staged a protest demonstration near the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission office here.
