Navneet Jha | HENB | New Delhi | Dec 23, 2025:: Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday to condemn the lynching of a Hindu man in Bangladesh, triggering heightened security and diplomatic strain between the two neighbours.
The protest was organised in response to the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old garment factory supervisor, who was allegedly lynched by a mob in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, on December 18. According to reports, Das was accused of blasphemy before being beaten to death, after which his body was set on fire.
Hundreds of supporters and activists from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal, and various Hindutva organisations participated in the protest, vociferously condemning the Bangladesh government for allegedly perpetrating Hindu killings, which are reportedly escalating daily at the hands of Islamists and fundamentalist elements.
Protestors clashed with police and broke barricades as they demanded accountability from Bangladeshi authorities, with some calling for justice and protection of minorities. To contain the situation, cops lathi-charged on protestors.
Tensions rose when a massive crowd of demonstrators pushed the security barricades. Protestors were chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “Yunus Sarkar Hosh me Aao”, and “Hindu Hatiya Band Karo”. As per reports, protestors managed to break at least two layers of barricades.
“I’ll also be a Dipu, and you’ll also be a Dipu if we don’t raise our voice today,” a protestor said.
Protesters raised slogans against the Bangladesh government and carried banners demanding justice. One placard read, “Hindu rakt ki ek ek boond ka hisaab chahiye” (Each drop of Hindu blood must be accounted for). Another read, “Sharm karo Bangladesh Sarkar, Bandh karo Hindu Nar-sanhar‘ (Shame on Bangladesh Govt. Stop Hindu Genocide). The demonstration was marked by strong emotions, with participants alleging targeted violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh.
Heavy police deployment was made around the High Commission to prevent any untoward incident as Hindu groups and activists demanded immediate accountability and international intervention.
The protest comes amid wider unrest in Bangladesh, where demonstrations have also erupted over the killing of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, a 32-year-old activist and a prominent leader of last year’s protests in the country. Hadi, known for his strong anti-India stance, succumbed to injuries after being shot last week, further fuelling political instability and street violence in Dhaka.
The twin killings have intensified tensions between India and Bangladesh. In the wake of escalating protests and growing anti-India sentiment in Bangladesh, Dhaka has suspended visa services and has summoned India’s High Commissioner for the second time in recent weeks, signalling a sharp deterioration in diplomatic relations.
The lynching of Dipu Chandra Das has renewed concerns over mob violence, misuse of blasphemy allegations, and the safety of religious minorities in Bangladesh, even as regional tensions continue to rise.
Police and security agencies have created multiple barricades to protect the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi from being damaged by the angry agitators so far.
