Uttam Pokhrel | HENB | Birgunj | Jan 5, 2026:: Wherever the Muslims increase their numbers, the peace of the area is disturbed severely. Hindu-majority Nepal is facing the same problem. As the Muslim population in Nepal is growing remarkably, radical Muslims are seen breaking law and order and disrupting social harmony according to their religious choices based on the Quran. Parsa is now affected by both Muslim fundamentalism and hooliganism.
Communal tensions erupted in parts of southern Nepal near the Indian border after a controversial social media post allegedly targeting Hindu religious sentiments triggered a chain of retaliatory actions, including the vandalisation of a mosque and violent protests that required police intervention.
The controversy reportedly began when two youths, Haider Ansari and Amanat Ansari, uploaded a video on TikTok in Janakpur, Dhanusha. Locals claimed the video hurt religious sentiments and handed the youths over to the police.
The unrest unfolded across Dhanusha and Parsa districts, close to the India–Nepal border, following the circulation of a TikTok video that allegedly contained derogatory remarks against Hindu Dharma. According to police, the video sparked outrage and led to heightened communal sensitivity in the region.
Police in Dhanusha district said a mosque in the Sakhuwa Maran area of Kamala Municipality was vandalised on Saturday. Authorities stated that the act was allegedly carried out in reaction to the offensive content circulated on social media. Three individuals were subsequently detained for allegedly posting the video and for their involvement in the ensuing disturbances.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ganesh Bam, spokesperson for the Dhanusha police, confirmed that the detained individuals are being investigated for allegedly uploading the controversial video and for their role in the vandalism incident.
Tensions escalated further on Sunday when protests were organised in Birgunj, the headquarters of Parsa district, bordering Raxaul in India. Demonstrators, protesting the mosque vandalisation in Dhanusha, reportedly burned tyres and blocked roads in several areas of the town.
Police said the protest later turned violent, with demonstrators allegedly pelting stones at security personnel and vandalising a local police station. To prevent further escalation, police lobbed nearly half a dozen tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and restore order.
“The demonstration turned violent, forcing police to use tear gas to bring the situation under control,” officials said, adding that normalcy returned to Birgunj later in the day.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Karki, spokesperson for the Parsa district police, seven police personnel sustained minor injuries during the clashes. Security has since been reinforced in sensitive areas to prevent further unrest.
In a public appeal issued on Sunday evening, Bhola Dahal, Chief District Officer of Parsa, urged residents to maintain peace and refrain from activities that could disrupt social harmony.
“Individuals involved in fomenting social, religious, or cultural animosity, undermining national unity, or spreading false rumours that damage the reputation of communities are being closely monitored on social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram,” the district administration said in a statement.
The administration also warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found guilty of creating social disharmony, disturbing public order, or damaging religious sites.
Police in both districts said investigations are ongoing and that authorities are closely monitoring online platforms to prevent the spread of inflammatory content. Officials emphasized that maintaining communal harmony remains a top priority and appealed to the public to avoid sharing unverified or provocative material.
Reclaiming Hindu Rashtra
While Nepal is gaining momentum for the reinstatement of its Hindu Rashtra with the restoration of its traditional monarchy, the European Union and Chinese Operators are trying hard to dismantle the Hindu Rashtra movement in Nepal by infusing Christian and Islamic disturbances in a vulnerable manner.
