National Conference on the Relevance of Hindutva Held at Lucknow University.

Reviving Roots: Demand to Include Hindu Texts in Curriculum at Lucknow University’s Hindutva Conference.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | Lucknow | Jan 20, 2026:: A one-day national conference on “The Eternal Relevance of Hindutva” was organised at Lucknow University, bringing together academicians, vice-chancellors, policymakers, and social thinkers to deliberate on India’s civilisational values, cultural heritage, and knowledge traditions. The event was hosted at the Malviya Auditorium by the World Hindu Academic Organisation (WHAO), an academic wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Uttar Pradesh Minister for Tourism and Culture Jaiveer Singh underlined the importance of preserving India’s cultural heritage. Citing the cultural revival of Kashi, Ayodhya, and Mathura, he said such initiatives have not only strengthened religious and cultural faith but have also boosted local economies and generated employment. He emphasised that cultural conservation plays a vital role in holistic national development.

Gajendra, Zonal Organising Secretary of the VHP’s Lucknow zone, highlighted the growing interest among youth in yoga, Sanskrit, and traditional Indian festivals, describing it as clear evidence of a spontaneous revival of cultural consciousness within society.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, former Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Central University, who spoke on the philosophical foundations of Indian life. He said that the Indian worldview is deeply rooted in values such as truth, non-violence, compassion, and a strong sense of duty, which continue to remain relevant in contemporary times.

Presiding over the inaugural session, Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jaya Prakash Saini referred to the National Education Policy (NEP) as a modern reflection of the inclusive spirit of Hindutva. He noted that the policy’s emphasis on Indian languages and indigenous knowledge systems marks a significant step toward reconnecting education with India’s intellectual heritage.

Prof. Nachiketa Tiwari, National Coordinator of WHAO, recalled the Gurukul tradition, where education and values were imparted simultaneously. He stressed that reinstating the Indian Knowledge System in higher education has become an urgent need of the time.

The second session focused on social harmony and India’s pluralistic strength. Dr. Vikram Singh, CMS Professor at Lohia Institute, spoke on the relevance of traditional Indian medical practices, stating that yoga and pranayama played a crucial role in enhancing immunity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Padma Shri awardee Ramesh Patange, speaking as the chief guest of the session, emphasised that the true strength of Indian society lies in its unity in diversity. He said social harmony is strengthened through mutual cooperation, dialogue, and a shared sense of responsibility, which together form the foundation of nation-building.

The session was chaired by Acharya Sanjay Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University. Another key address was delivered by Dr. Nikhil Walimbe, who spoke on Islam and its social impact, observing that the influence of any religion is closely linked to its historical interpretations and social practices.

In his presidential remarks, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.K. Mittal shared his perspectives on academic and cultural discourse. Several other dignitaries, including Prant Organising Minister Vijay and senior academicians, were also present at the conference.

The conference concluded with a call to integrate religious and philosophical texts into academic curricula, reinforcing the view that India’s civilisational wisdom remains relevant for addressing modern societal and educational challenges.
