Upendra Bharti | HENB | Bhopal | Feb 3, 2026:: Bhopal witnessed intense scenes on Tuesday after a 19-year-old Muslim youth accused of raping and blackmailing a minor Hindu schoolgirl was allegedly assaulted by a group of lawyers and angry onlookers inside the premises of the district court, turning a routine court production into a scene of chaos.

The accused, identified as Osaf Ali Khan, was produced before the district court by police following his arrest in connection with alleged sexual offences against a minor Class 11 student in the city. What was expected to be a standard remand hearing reportedly escalated when a group of lawyers surrounded the police escort and the handcuffed accused, allegedly attacking him in public view.

Eyewitnesses reported loud arguments and commotion echoing through the court corridors as some advocates were seen confronting and allegedly beating the accused while demanding justice for the minor victim. Police personnel intervened to control the situation, which led to heated exchanges between members of the legal fraternity and law enforcement officials. A video showing the altercation and physical confrontation later surfaced on social media and quickly went viral.

According to police officials, the accused allegedly befriended the Hindu minor through one of her friends and gradually lured her into a relationship by promising love and marriage. In July last year, he allegedly took her on a ride to a secluded location in Khanugaon, where he is accused of raping her inside a car and secretly recording an obscene video of the assault.

Police further stated that the accused later used the video to blackmail the terrified teenager, demanding ₹1 lakh and threatening to leak the footage if she did not comply. Under fear and humiliation, the minor reportedly managed to pay him ₹40,000.

When the girl attempted to cut off contact by blocking him, the accused allegedly escalated the harassment by showing the explicit video to her friends. The complaint also alleges that the victim was subjected to severe mental pressure, including attempts to force her to change her religion and compelling her to recite religious prayers against her will.

Traumatised and distressed, the minor eventually confided in her family. With support from members of Hindu organisations, a complaint was filed at the Kohefiza police station. Police immediately registered an FIR under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with sections related to rape, extortion, blackmail, and other associated offences.

Kohefiza Station House Officer Krishna Gopal Shukla confirmed the swift police action.

“The accused was arrested immediately after the complaint was registered. His mobile phone has been seized and sent for forensic analysis. He has been placed on a two-day police remand for detailed interrogation. The investigation is ongoing, and strict action will be taken based on the evidence that emerges,” he said.

The incident has sparked strong public reactions, with many viewing the courtroom confrontation as an expression of deep anger over Islamic crimes against minors. It has also triggered debate over maintaining order in judicial spaces, even as there are widespread calls for the strictest possible legal action against Muslim individuals accused of exploiting, deceiving, sexually assaulting, and blackmailing minor Hindu girls.

The incident has intensified nationwide concerns over what several Hindu organisations and social groups describe as the growing menace of “Love Jihad” in India. They argue that such cases reveal a disturbing pattern of deception, sexual exploitation, blackmail, and coercive religious pressure targeting minor Hindu girls and women. The episode has renewed demands for tougher laws, stricter enforcement, and zero tolerance toward such offences, with calls for authorities to act decisively to prevent similar crimes and ensure exemplary punishment for the accused.
