Upendra Bharti | A self-styled Muslim tantric practitioner has been arrested in connection with the deaths of three Hindu individuals found inside a parked vehicle in Delhi’s Peeragarhi area. Investigators now suspect that the accused may be linked to at least five other similar deaths in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, raising concerns about a possible serial pattern.
The accused, identified as Kamruddin alias “Baba,” a resident of Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly targeted Hindu victims under the guise of spiritual healing and tantric rituals. Police claim he administered poison-laced sweets to unsuspecting individuals who approached him seeking solutions to personal and family problems.
The bodies of Randhir (76), Naresh Singh (47), and Laxmi Devi (40) were discovered inside a car parked on a flyover in West Delhi. Preliminary investigations suggest the trio had been in contact with Kamruddin shortly before their deaths. Authorities allege that he offered them ladoos containing toxic substances during what was presented as a ritualistic practice.
A murder case has been registered, and forensic reports are awaited to confirm the precise cause of death.
Police officials have indicated that the Delhi case mirrors earlier incidents reported in Firozabad (Uttar Pradesh) and Dholpur (Rajasthan). In Firozabad, two Hindu individuals reportedly died after consuming sweets allegedly provided by the same accused during ritual ceremonies. Separate murder cases were filed in those instances.
Another death in Dholpur is also under scrutiny for following a comparable pattern. If confirmed, the total number of suspected victims linked to the accused could rise to six.
Law enforcement agencies from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are coordinating to examine evidence, forensic findings, and witness statements to determine whether these deaths are connected through a consistent modus operandi.
Police sources have stated that investigators are probing the motive behind the alleged crimes. Among the angles being examined are:
Whether the accused sought financial gain by exploiting vulnerable individuals.
Whether he attempted to gain control over money or property belonging to the victims.
Whether there was any ideological or religious motive involved.
Authorities have clarified that no conclusion has yet been reached regarding the underlying motive, and all possibilities are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
A complaint filed earlier this year in Firozabad alleges that the accused lured individuals by claiming expertise in tantra-mantra and exorcism. One complainant stated that a relative was taken to the accused’s residence for ritual practices and was found dead the following day. Ritual-related items, including glasses and sweets, were reportedly recovered from the scene.
Police conducted an inquest and post-mortem examination and have included those findings in the broader multi-state investigation.
Authorities have emphasized that the matter remains under active investigation. Officials are reviewing forensic reports, financial transactions, property records, and communication data to determine whether additional victims may be linked to the accused.
Police have urged the public to exercise caution when engaging with individuals claiming supernatural or spiritual powers, particularly when rituals involve consumption of food or drink.
Further details are expected as the investigation progresses. According to the report, the police are investigating the matter to determine the motive of the tantrik—whether he intended to grab money and property from the victims or planned to kill kaffirs (non-believers) to secure his place in ‘behast’ (Islamic paradise).
The arrest of the Muslim tantrik is alarming, as the intentions of such individuals have allegedly been revealed to cause fatal harm to Hindus.
