Bhopal: Two Muslim Sisters Among Six Booked in Alleged Rape and Forced Conversion Racket.

Forced to read Quran and other Islamic books, told to marry Muslim men’: How 2 sisters and their gang ran rape-conversion racket.

Upendra Bharti | HENB  | Bhopal | Feb 24, 2026:: The Bag Sewania police have registered two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) on charges of rape and forced religious conversion against approximately half a dozen individuals, including two sisters, following complaints filed by two Hindu women—a 21-year-old from Chhattisgarh and a 30-year-old woman based in Bhopal. The cases have been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act.

According to police officials, the accused allegedly targeted vulnerable women under the pretext of providing employment, gained their trust, and subsequently subjected them to sexual exploitation and pressure to convert to Islam.

Allegations of Organized Exploitation

Police investigations indicate that the alleged mastermind, identified as Razia Khan (name changed), orchestrated the operations along with her live-in partner Chandan Yadav, also known as Yasin after allegedly converting to Islam; her brother Bilal; an associate named Yasir; her sister Ayesha (name changed); and another associate of Muslim faith.

Authorities have so far arrested Razia, Ayesha, and Chandan alias Yasin. On Monday, the three were produced before a court and remanded to police custody. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.

Bag Sewania Station House Officer (SHO) Amit Soni confirmed that two separate cases of rape and forced religious conversion have been registered based on the survivors’ complaints.

Complaint of the 30-Year-Old Survivor

In her complaint, the 30-year-old survivor stated that she is divorced and a mother of two children. She had been working at a catering agency when she came into contact with Razia in 2024 at Ashima Mall in Bhopal. Razia allegedly offered her a babysitting job at her residence with a monthly salary of ₹10,000.

The survivor accepted the offer and began living with Razia and her partner, Chandan, at their residence.

During this period, she alleged that Yasin Chandan mixed an intoxicating substance into her tea and raped her. Subsequently, Razia allegedly introduced her to a friend from Jehangirabad for sexual exploitation and later took her to Ahmedabad, where she was allegedly assaulted by Yasir, identified as Razia’s brother.

The survivor further alleged that Razia and Yasin Chandan pressured her to convert to Islam and discussed arranging her remarriage to a Muslim man. She reported being forced to read Islamic religious books, including the Quran. The woman managed to escape in February 2025.

Complaint of the 21-Year-Old Beautician

A similar complaint was filed by a 21-year-old beautician from Chhattisgarh. She reported meeting Razia’s sister-in-law, Riya (name changed), at a friend’s birthday party. At the time, she was unaware that Riya had converted to Islam. Riya allegedly introduced her to Razia at Ashima Mall, promising better employment opportunities.

Through Razia, she came into contact with Chandan, who allegedly forced physical relations with her. She further alleged that Razia’s brother Bilal, and later Yasir in Ahmedabad, sexually exploited her.

When she confided in Riya about the abuse, she learned that Riya had married Razia’s brother Haider and had changed her name after converting to Islam. According to the complaint, Riya allegedly told her that such matters were normal and stated that she too had converted from Hinduism to Islam.

The 21-year-old further alleged that Razia and Chandan alias Yasin harassed her, took her to parties where she was made to wear revealing clothes, and pressured her to marry a Muslim man. She was allegedly told to adopt their religion, with statements such as: “Men in our community are good; they do not beat women or drink alcohol. You should adopt our religion and marry one of our men.”

She also alleged being compelled to read the Quran and other Islamic religious texts as part of the pressure to convert.

Police Investigation Underway

SHO Amit Soni stated that the investigation is ongoing and that police are actively working to apprehend the remaining accused. Authorities are examining the possibility of a coordinated network targeting vulnerable women under the guise of employment and support.

The two survivors, who reportedly met after escaping the accused, approached Bag Sewania police station together to lodge their complaints, leading to the exposure of the alleged racket.

Further legal proceedings are underway as police continue their investigation into the case.
