Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | New Delhi | March 5, 2026:: Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged a protest in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad over an alleged interfaith relationship between a Muslim man and a Hindu woman, claiming their action was intended to prevent incidents similar to those depicted in the recently released film🔗 The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond.
The protest took place outside the residence of a Muslim doctor who was reportedly in a relationship with a Hindu colleague. Activists from the Hindutva organizations gathered at the location and staged a dharna, alleging that such relationships could potentially be linked to what they describe as “love jihad,” a controversial but widely established claim that Muslim men deliberately target Hindu women in romantic relationships for religious conversion and exploitation.
The protest comes amid the nationwide screening of The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond, the sequel to the original film The Kerala Story, which was released in May 2023 and generated significant political and social debate across India.
According to its promoters and supporters, the sequel portrays what they describe as the phenomenon of “love jihad,” depicting narratives in which Hindu girls and women are allegedly lured into romantic relationships and subsequently subjected to various forms of oppression. The film claims to highlight extreme consequences such as coercion, exploitation, sexual violence, gang rape, forced prostitution, and even murder.
Critics, however, have previously argued that such portrayals remain highly contested and have warned that the narrative may contribute to communal tensions. Nevertheless, the film’s release has reignited public discourse on interfaith relationships and religious conversion in several parts of the country.
A video of the Ahmedabad protest surfaced on social media on Thursday, March 5. The footage shows a group of men wearing saffron scarves seated outside the doctor’s residence while police officials monitor the situation.
Local residents had reportedly alerted members of the organizations after learning about the alleged relationship between the doctor and the woman. The residents have also alleged that the Muslim doctor has many intimate relationships with Hindu girls and women who are medical students or doctors by profession.
In the video, the group appears to question the woman while surrounding her. The woman repeatedly states that no illegal act had occurred and that the matter had already been resolved with the authorities. She also insisted that the intervention of the groups was unnecessary and urged that any concerns should be addressed through legal channels.
Despite her statements, the protesters continued to argue that such relationships could potentially lead to serious consequences. They claimed their intervention was aimed at protecting the woman from possible future exploitation.
During the exchange, some members of the group reportedly stated that their “officers are different from yours,” implying that the issue fell within the authority of their organization rather than solely under the jurisdiction of local police.
The argument continued for some time, with the woman maintaining that the issue should be addressed legally, while the protesters insisted that the matter must first be clarified with them before police involvement.
The demonstrators later demanded that a senior police officer investigate the matter.
The situation was eventually defused after Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Gautamkumar Parmar personally assured the group that the matter would be examined seriously and handled according to legal procedures.
Police remained present at the scene throughout the protest to prevent any escalation. No immediate reports of violence or arrests were reported.
The incident highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding interfaith relationships in India, particularly in the context of the socially charged debate around the concept of “love jihad.” While supporters of the theory argue that such cases represent organized efforts of religious conversion through romantic relationships, critics and several investigations have questioned the existence of any coordinated conspiracy.
The release of The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond has once again brought the issue into the national spotlight, prompting renewed discussions, protests, and political reactions in different parts of the country.
