Black Holi for the Family of Tarun Kumar: Father Demands CBI Probe as Tensions Rise in Delhi.

Muslim Goons Killed Him: Father of Man Killed in Delhi Holi Clash After Water Balloon Hits Burqa-Clad Woman Demands CBI Probe, Says ‘He Was Our Only Support’.

Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | New Delhi | March 7, 2026:: A Holi celebration in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar turned violent earlier this week after an argument triggered by a water balloon escalated into a clash between two families, resulting in the death of a 26-year-old man by Muslim goons. The Hindu victim, Tarun Kumar, succumbed to his injuries the following morning. Police have arrested four people and detained a minor, all reportedly belonging to the Muslim community, in connection with the incident.

The clash reportedly began late on the night of March 4, the day of Holi, when a minor girl was throwing water balloons from a terrace at people passing through the lane below. According to the police and family members, one of the balloons accidentally hit a burqa-clad Muslim woman walking through the street. The woman objected to the incident, leading to a heated exchange that later escalated into physical violence between members of the two families.

Events Leading to the Clash

According to Tarun Kumar’s father, Memraj, the confrontation occurred around 11 pm when the family was preparing to sleep. He said the balloon was accidentally dropped by a young girl aged around six or seven.

“It was March 4, the day of Holi, around 11 pm. We were preparing to sleep when a 6–7-year-old girl accidentally dropped a water balloon from above. A woman passing through the lane created a dispute over it. We apologised, but she gathered her family members,” Memraj said, as quoted by PTI.

He alleged that the situation escalated quickly when a group of people arrived in the lane.

“Soon, 15–20 people arrived with sticks and rods and started attacking us. We ran inside the house, but they locked the door from outside. Several family members were injured,” he said.

Police stated that the confrontation left at least four people injured. Tarun Kumar later died from injuries sustained during the clash.

Dare Huye Muslims- The Frightened Muslim

Critics of the incident argue that it reflects what they describe as the contradiction in the narrative of “dare huye Musalman” (frightened Muslims) often invoked in public discourse. They contend that despite claims of fear and marginalisation, incidents of violent retaliation in disputes continue to occur even in the national capital. Some commentators have linked the aggressive response seen in the Uttam Nagar clash to a broader pattern of heightened communal tensions that were also visible during the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in 2019–2020 and the subsequent February 2020 riots in Delhi. According to these voices, such episodes demonstrate what they view as a persistence of Islamic intolerance and confrontation in certain flashpoints, raising concerns about social harmony and law and order in the city.

Victim Allegedly Attacked After Returning Home

According to Kumar’s family, the 26-year-old was not present when the initial dispute broke out. His uncle, Tek Chand, said Tarun had been playing Holi with friends and returned home after the argument had already escalated.

“When he returned home, he was waylaid in the lane and assaulted by eight to ten people with rods, sticks, and stones,” Tek Chand alleged in a statement to HENB.

Tarun’s father further claimed that the attackers targeted him brutally.

“The group attacked him with iron rods and sticks, repeatedly hitting his head and throwing a heavy slab on his chest, killing him. He was our only support and was studying digital marketing. We are poor people,” Memraj said.

Family Questions Police Investigation Demanding CBI Probe

Following the incident, Delhi Police said they had arrested four individuals and apprehended a minor in connection with the case. However, the victim’s family has expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation.

Memraj said the police had informed them about arrests but had not provided sufficient details.

“They say they have arrested people, but we have not been shown anything,” he said.

The grieving father has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into his son’s death and appealed to national and state leadership for intervention.

“I appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for strict action against those responsible,” Memraj said.

Sit-In Protest Outside Police Station

On Friday, Memraj and several supporters staged a sit-in protest outside the Uttam Nagar police station, demanding stronger action and transparency in the investigation.

According to Memraj, the protest ended in confrontation with police.

“We went there seeking justice for my son, but the police resorted to a lathicharge,” he alleged.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed the use of force during the protest.

Protests and Arson After Death

Tensions escalated in the locality after news of Tarun Kumar’s death spread. Protests broke out in Uttam Nagar, with residents demanding justice for the victim.

On Friday night, some vehicles were set on fire during demonstrations in the area. Visuals from the locality showed a car and a motorcycle engulfed in flames as protesters gathered on the streets.

Security Tightened in Uttam Nagar

Amid rising tensions, police have significantly increased security deployment in the area. The Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed on Saturday morning to maintain law and order.

Dwarka district Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kushal Pal Singh said authorities had taken multiple steps to prevent further escalation.

“Adequate security arrangements have been made in the area in view of the ongoing tensions,” Singh told news agency ANI.

He added that the locality has been divided into zones for monitoring.

“We have divided the area into zones, sectors and sub-sectors. Our motorcycles and vehicles are continuously patrolling,” Singh said.

Police officials also confirmed that community outreach efforts were underway.

“We have called people from both communities and appealed to them to maintain peace and order in the area,” the DCP added.

Ongoing Investigation

Police say the investigation is continuing and further action will be taken based on evidence gathered from the scene and witness statements. Meanwhile, the victim’s family continues to demand an independent investigation into the incident, maintaining that a full probe is necessary to ensure justice.

The incident has heightened tensions in the Uttam Nagar area, with authorities urging residents to remain calm as the investigation progresses.
