VHP Urges Organisations in Delhi to Celebrate Hindu New Year on March 19.
Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | March 14, 2026:: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Indraprastha Province, has appealed to religious, social, and business organisations across Delhi to organise programmes on March 19 to celebrate the Hindu New Year – Vikram Samvat 2083, observed on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada.
In an appeal issued on March 13, the organisation highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of the day in the Sanatan tradition, describing it as the beginning of the Hindu New Year and an occasion symbolising renewal and spiritual awakening.
According to the VHP, Chaitra Shukla Pratipada is regarded as one of the most sacred and auspicious days in the Hindu calendar. “From this day begins our Hindu New Year. This date is not merely a change of calendar, but a symbol of the renewal of nature, culture and spirituality,” the appeal stated.
The organisation also referred to references in Puranic and scriptural traditions, noting that it is believed that Lord Brahma began the creation of the universe on this day, giving the occasion deep mythological and cosmological significance.
Emphasising the relevance of spiritual practices during challenging times, the VHP said that India’s traditional spiritual disciplines have historically guided society through crises and uncertainty. “Whenever the world has faced crises, unrest and uncertainty, the spiritual practices of Indian culture—yajna, havan, chanting, kirtan and satsang—have shown a new direction to society,” the statement said.
The VHP has called upon institutions throughout the national capital to mark the occasion with a variety of religious and cultural activities. These include yajna and havan ceremonies in temples, kirtans and satsangs at religious centres, discourses, and collective prayers.
In addition, the organisation encouraged people to decorate homes, temples, and shops with lamps, flags, and torans as a symbolic welcome to the new year.
The appeal also emphasised the importance of offering prayers for social harmony, prosperity, and global peace. According to the VHP, collective celebration of the festival by institutions and communities would strengthen unity within the Hindu community while promoting broader ideals of welfare and harmony.
“We believe that if all institutions of society celebrate this sacred festival of religion and culture together, it will not only strengthen unity and enthusiasm within the Hindu community but will also reinforce the spirit of welfare for the entire world,” the appeal stated.
