Rupa Tiwari | HENB | Ujjain | March — A student was allegedly assaulted by activists associated with a Hindu nationalist group outside the Ujjain railway station on Friday evening after he was seen in the company of three female students. A video purportedly showing the incident has circulated widely on social media, prompting attention from local authorities and the public.
According to preliminary information, the student, identified as Sheikh Aman, had arrived in Ujjain from Satna along with three female students. The group reportedly reached the railway station area when members of a Hindu nationalist organization approached them and began questioning Aman about his identity and purpose for visiting the city.
Witness accounts and the viral video suggest that the activists asked Aman for his name and address. During the exchange, he allegedly hesitated to immediately disclose his identity and stated that he had come to visit Ujjain with a friend.
The situation escalated when the activists checked his Aadhaar card, which reportedly showed that he had traveled from Satna to Bhopal and then to Ujjain. Following this, several activists allegedly physically assaulted the student outside the railway station premises.
A video of the incident circulating online appears to show a group confronting and beating the student while others record the altercation. The footage has drawn significant reactions on social media, with calls for investigation and accountability.
Local police arrived at the scene shortly afterward, intervening in the confrontation. Officers subsequently took Aman and the three female students into custody and transferred them to the Government Railway Police (GRP) station for further inquiry.
GRP Station In-charge Amit Bhavsar confirmed that the four students are currently being questioned.
According to Bhavsar:
The male student and the three female students have been detained for questioning.
Their families have been informed, and authorities are waiting for them to arrive.
Further action will be decided after recording statements from the students and their families.
Police officials indicated that the situation is being examined from multiple angles to determine the exact sequence of events.
Members of the Hindu nationalist group involved in the confrontation claimed that the incident could be linked to what they described as a “Love Jihad” plot, a controversial term used by some groups alleging that Muslim men target Hindu women for religious conversion through relationships.
The activists have demanded a formal investigation and urged authorities to take action if any wrongdoing is established.
At present, no formal charges have been publicly confirmed, and the police investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are expected to review:
Statements from the students and their families
The viral video footage
Eyewitness accounts from the railway station area
Officials have urged the public not to spread unverified information on social media while the investigation continues.
Further updates are expected once the police complete preliminary questioning and review the available evidence.
