Padma Hridya Ramani | HENB | Bengaluru | March 20, 2026:: A 17-year-old Muslim minor was allegedly abducted and assaulted by members associated with Hindutva groups in Karnataka’s Dakshin Kannada district on March 11, during a local fair. The incident, which reportedly occurred in Ujire under the jurisdiction of the Belthangady police station, came to light after the boy’s father filed a complaint on March 18 upon discovering a suicide note written by his son.
According to the complaint, the minor had attended the Jatra Mahotsav fair with friends and was standing near a Ferris wheel when he was approached by a group of individuals identified as Bajrang Dal workers, including Gaurav Shetty and Ramesh. The accused allegedly confronted the boy on the grounds that he was attending the fair in the company of Hindu girls.
Reports from local sources also suggest that the minor had previously been involved in an illicit personal matter involving a Hindu woman. Local people say that, although the Muslim boy is a minor as stated, he earlier developed an illicit relationship with a Hindu divorced woman after secretly catching a video of her bathing to blackmail her. But, due to no formal complaint being submitted to the police from either end, the matter was settled privately with a mutual understanding that the Muslim boy would not disturb the Hindu woman. These claims remain unverified and are not part of the official police complaint.
The accused allegedly apprehended the minor at the fair, physically assaulted him, and later lifted him on a motorcycle to another location, where the assault reportedly continued. During this time, the boy was allegedly coerced into recording a video in which he stated that he had committed a mistake by attending the fair. He was subsequently released and returned home in a distressed condition.
Following the incident, the minor was reportedly subjected to continued harassment, including repeated phone calls and threats from the accused individuals. According to the complaint, one of the accused allegedly threatened to visit the boy’s residence when he stopped responding to calls.
The sustained harassment is said to have caused severe psychological distress, leading the minor to write a suicide note. His family discovered the note and subsequently approached the authorities. Local police have clarified that no suicide attempt has been officially reported.
A case has been registered under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 137(2) (kidnapping), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 353(2) (public mischief), and 190 (unlawful assembly). The investigation is ongoing.
In India, many Muslim youths visit melas and other Hindu fairs with the intention of mingling with Hindu girls and women to entrap them in a Love Jihad ploy. These Muslims don’t believe in the traditions, rituals, and faith involved in those religious melas, but show eagerness to attend them to target Hindu females, whether it’s a Garba, Navratri, jagran, Yatra, or Chaitra Mela.
