Upendra Bharti | HENB | Mumbai | April 13, 2026:: A major controversy has erupted in Nashik following serious allegations of sexual harassment, workplace exploitation, and coercion at a business process outsourcing (BPO) unit linked to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The case, which began with a single complaint in late March, has since expanded into a multi-victim investigation, triggering arrests, political reactions, and the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The मामला first came to light on March 25, when a young woman approached the Deolali Camp police station alleging prolonged sexual exploitation and harassment by colleagues at her workplace in the Mumbai Naka area. According to her complaint, the incidents spanned several years—from 2022 to 2026—and involved not only sexual misconduct but also actions that allegedly hurt her religious sentiments.
Given the gravity of the allegations, Nashik Police widened the probe and appealed for other employees to come forward. Within days, additional complaints surfaced. By April 3, authorities had registered nine FIRs based on testimonies from eight women and one male employee, indicating a broader pattern of alleged abuse.
In response, a Special Investigation Team was constituted to conduct an in-depth probe. The SIT, comprising seven officers—including three women—reportedly carried out undercover operations to uncover the alleged misconduct. Investigators say the involvement of female officers helped victims come forward and share their experiences, leading to further evidence and arrests.
According to complainants, several accused individuals—reportedly in supervisory roles—used their positions to exploit junior staff, particularly Hindu employees. Victims have alleged a pattern of intimidation, sexual harassment, and coercion, with many claiming they were too afraid of retaliation or job loss to report the incidents earlier.
The allegations include inappropriate remarks, molestation, forced relationships, and a hostile work environment. Some employees also claimed that their complaints to the HR department were ignored or dismissed.
Additionally, victims have alleged religious coercion in the workplace. Claims include being pressured to participate in practices such as offering namaz, accepting Islam, uttering abuses against Hindu deities and being coerced into consuming food against their beliefs, including beef, allegedly in exchange for job security or salary hikes. These claims have been publicly reiterated by Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan.
Police have arrested multiple individuals in connection with the case, including Asif Ansari, Shafi Sheikh, Shah Rukh Qureshi, Raza Memon, Tausif Attar, and Danish Sheikh. A senior HR official has also been taken into custody for allegedly failing to act on earlier complaints and abetting the misconduct.
Authorities allege that the accused created an environment of fear and silence, enabling prolonged exploitation. While most accused are in magisterial custody, at least one suspect is reported to be absconding.
The case has sparked intense political debate. Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including Nitesh Rane, have described the incident as “corporate jihad,” alleging a broader pattern of targeted exploitation within corporate environments.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis termed the matter “very serious” and assured strict action against those found guilty. Minister Girish Mahajan further alleged that the victims may have been targeted as part of a larger racket involving coercion, blackmail, and attempted religious conversion.
Nashik, Maharashtra: Minister Girish Mahajan says, "In the TCS company in Nashik, where many young girls work. The way this incident has happened is very unfortunate and shameful. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) confirmed on April 12 that several employees at its Nashik unit have been suspended pending investigation. The company stated that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward harassment and coercion and acted promptly once the allegations surfaced.
TCS also said it is cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities and that further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
District Collector Ayush Prasad has ordered an inquiry under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act to assess whether the company adhered to mandated workplace safeguards, including timely handling of complaints and maintaining internal vigilance mechanisms.
Authorities are now examining internal HR processes, workplace culture, and the extent of alleged misconduct as part of the broader SIT investigation.
With multiple FIRs registered, arrests made, and new testimonies continuing to emerge, the Nashik case has evolved into a significant legal and political issue. Investigators are working to establish the full scope of the alleged activities, including whether there was any organised pattern or network behind the incidents.
Officials have emphasized that all allegations are under active investigation, and conclusions will be drawn based on evidence collected during the probe.
It is unbelievable that in an associate of a multinational company like TCS, where educated and progressive professionals are at the forefront, such alleged “Corporate Jihadis” were active in exploiting Hindu girls through sexual harassment, religious demonisation, gender bias, and intimidation.
