Avoid Ramdev’s yoga camp, it begins with ‘Vande Mataram’:

Darool to Muslims

PTI 7 November 2009, 05:44pm IST

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Four days after Ramdev demonstrated ‘pranayam’ and a Hindu priest recited Vedic hymns at a meet of Muslim clerics at Deoband, Islamic seminary Darul Uloom issued a directive asking Muslims to avoid a camp run by the yoga guru as it begins with the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’.“Singing of Vande Mataram is a prayer and against Islamic law as Muslims cannot offer prayers to anyone except Allah. Muslims should not sing Vande Mataram,” said Mufti Ehsan Kazmi, deputy-in-charge of Darul Uloom’s fatwa department. He, however, said yoga can be practised as an exercise.

Another cleric Mufti Ehsan also said Muslims should refrain from singing ‘Vande Mataram’ during the yoga camp.

Darul Uloom had issued an edict which opposed any prayer involving ‘Vande Mataram’ and it was supported by top Muslim body Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind at its 30th general assembly at Deoband.

More than two lakh clerics and students watched Ramdev’s demonstration.

Incidentally, the 143-year-old influential seminary Darool had in the past issued a fatwa in favour of yoga after some clerics banned Muslims from practicing it.

It may be noted here that some Muslim Organisations had issued a fatwa against Yoga in Malaysia with the full support of  Islamic State Authority there.

Ramdev under fire for attending Deoband meet

Sanjay Pandey, Lucknow, Nov 5, DH News Service:

Swami Ram Dev may have received support from the Muslim clergy for his yoga presentation at the recent Jamiat-e-Hind convention at Deoband.

But the sadhu community in Ayodhya is up in arms against him for attending the meet and “remaining silent” on the “fatwa” against Vande Mataram.

The sadhus of Ayodhya not only condemned Ram Dev for his silence but also accused him of “giving preference to his business interests over national interests”.

The issue will be raised at the forthcoming meeting of the All India Akhara Parishad, an apex body of sadhus, at Hardwar on November 10. “Baba Ram Dev has become a businessman… if he claims to be an Indian, he should have opposed the fatwa against Vande Mataram,” Akhara president Mahant Gyan Das told Deccan Herald from Ayodhya on Thursday.

All India Saint Committee general secretary Mahamandaleshwar Hans Das also denounced Ram Dev, saying his (Ram Dev) silence reflected his preference for commercial interests.

“Ram Dev’s commercial interests are becoming a hurdle in the way of his patriotism,” Han Das said. “By attending the meet where the fatwa against Vande Mataram was issued, Ram Dev has hurt the sentiments of crores of Indians, and he must seek forgiveness,” Mahant Narayan Giri said.

Meanwhile, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board member and naib imam of Idgah, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangimahali, said here that no “fatwa” had been issued against Vande Mataram at the Deoband meet.

“It could at best be termed a proposal… it is not a fatwa… a fatwa is issued in response to a query in the light of shariat and is signed by at least three ulemas,” he said.

The Jamiat in its recent three-day national convention at Deoband had said that reciting Vande Mataram violated the spirit of Islam, and as such Muslims should not recite it.

Union home minister P Chidambaram and Swami Ram Dev had attended the meet on its concluding day, although it was not clear whether fatwa was issued in their presence.

The Muslim clergy said there was nothing wrong in practising yoga, and even announced that Ram Dev would conduct a yoga camp at Deoband later.

So far our knowledge is concerned  Mahamandaleshwar Hans Dasji and Mahant Narayan Giriji are in the closest circles of Ramdevji . In various movements and functions including Patanjali Yogpeeth Ramdevji’s HQ) in Hardwar these saints shared the same dais for achieving the goal of National Interest or for protecting Indian Heritage and culture. We the common people inspired a lot getting a thrust of Unity amongst the Indian Monks and Saints.

But a permissive Ramdevji ( No Omkar in the Yog Session of Muslims) or a reluctant Ramdevji ( No protest against the anti Bande Mataram fatwa) irritated the veteran saints in India, which is harmful to the Unity of Bharatiya Sadhu Samaj (Indian Saints circles) and for the Image of an Un-compromising Ramdev too.

The thousands and crores of  Pro Hindu Indians who respect Ramdevji as their GURU, are also in a resentment for which  the future planning of Baba Ramdev may be hampered a lot.

Ramdevji should clarify his views very clearly for both the “Yoga without OMkar” and “No Bande Mataram for Muslims” in India.

BaBa Ramdev says “BISMILLAH-E-REHMAN—-” in Deoband, then whats the problem for Muslims to say “Vande Mataram”?
During his last visit at Deoband Baba Ramdev start his speech with “BISMILLAH-E-REHMAN-UR-RAHIM”,when a Hindu can show generosity/open mindness ,what is the problem of Muslim,s saying “Vande Mataram”…

After all it is just giving respect to your Mother land,Even Prophet Muhammad says “that it,s heaven under the feet of mother” and here in our national song the writer is equating Land of India with His mother….

The problem is with us , not with them. We are too sweet. Anyone will take advantage of us. Chidambaram has lauded the community for their role in freedom struggle. I want to know compared to the population ratio of Hindu muslims in undivided India was their role in freedom struggle equal to the Hindus? Was there any muslim organization that protested against Muslim Leagues’s demand of Pakistan at that time?

A nation that distorts historical facts will pay dearly.

    Jamait-Ulama-i-Hind: Chidambaram only partly right

    Hari Om

    8 November 2009

Addressing the 30th general session of the Jamait-Ulama-i-Hind (JuH) at the Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband seminary, founded in 1867 by Maulana Mohammad Qasim Nanotwi, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said that the JuH opposed the two-nation theory and played an important role in the country’s struggle for freedom.

Chidambaram was partly right and partly wrong. He was right when he said that the JuH opposed the British rule, as also the two-nation theory aimed at dividing the nation. He was wrong when he gave it full marks, virtually saying that the approach of the JuH was liberal, all-embracing and secular. This was not the case.

The JuH all along believed in wholesale conversions and wanted to re-establish Islamic rule in India. Its entry into the Indian freedom struggle and its insistence on territorial and united nationalism, as opposed to religious nationalism, was just tactical.

It needs to be underlined that the JuH, which came into being in 1919 as a political organ of the Deoband School to join the Turkey-centric Khilafat Movement, opposed the two-nation theory because it believed that the division of India and creation of Pakistan would defeat its ultimate objective of converting the non-believers and re-establishing Islamic rule in all of India.

To be more precise, its arguments against the two-nation theory were: “The Pakistan demand has British backing; Pakistan will split and therefore weaken Muslim India; Muslims left behind in India after separation will be at the mercy of the Hindus; partition will hinder the missionary activities of the Ulema; Muslim League leaders are ignorant of Islam, have no ideology, and are only exploiting the name of Islam for the worldly gains of Muslim vested interests; and Muslim League leaders are incapable of building up an Islamic state and their Pakistan will be no better than the Turkey of Mustafa Kamal.”

What were the stated aims and objectives of the Deoband seminary and its political outfit, the Jamait-Ulama-i-Hind? Their aims and objectives were “to defend Islam, Islamic rituals and customs, and Islamic nationalism against all odds injurious to them; achieve and protect the general religious and national rights of the Muslims; establish good and friendly relations with the non-Muslims of the country to the extent permitted by the Shariat-i-Islamiyah; fight for the freedom of the country and religion according to the Shari objectives.”

The meaning of the unambiguous arguments advance by the JuH against the two-nation theory, and the implications of its stated aims and objectives do not warrant any reflection. For everything is self-explanatory. Even a naïve would take no time to conclude that the intentions of the JuH were neither noble nor secular, and that it simply wanted to give a particular type of orientation to things in India, political or otherwise.

The attitude of the JuH has not undergone any change whatsoever. Both JuH and the Deoband School were “intellectually sterile” before 1947, and they continue to remain so even today. They still believe in conservatism and out-dated and “old-fashioned disciplines.” Their approach continues to be as sectarian as it adopted at the time of their formation. They have no regard for teachings other than those of the Hanafi School of theology. They continue to oppose even today the Barelvis and Ahl-i-Hadith, leave alone the non-believers like the Hindus and Sikhs and their religions. They are simply “competent in theological hair-spitting” and in “expounding the orthodoxies of their particular sect.” And they continue to cherish the desire of achieving their goals set at the time of their inception.

That JuH and the Deoband School have not changed a wit can be seen from JuH’s 3 November 2009 endorsement of Deoband’s 2006 Fatwa directing Muslims not to sing the national song Vande Mataram, as according to the Deoband School, singing the national song is an anti-Islamic act.

P Chidambaram, who committed a grave fax pas by attending the JuH-sponsored conference, would do well to study the nature and aims of the Deoband Movement and the JuH. He must hit the nail on the head and say what is right and what is wrong. Such an approach on the part of the people at the helm has become imperative in view of the activities indulged in by outfits like the JuH, which only produce indoctrinated jihadis. His explanation that the anti-Bande Mataram resolution was not adopted in his presence is just not enough.

Religion comes FIRST to the fundamentalists of DuH , then the country. Their aim is to spread Islam at all costs. In this context, they do not want to modernise Madrasa Education as they feel that this would dilute their emphasis on Religious education. They brain wash the young to say that all religions are bad except Islam. With this sort of mind set, can anyone expect any Patriotism from such a fundamental group, supporter of Talibanism. Unfortunately DuH has given a negative support to the gesture shown by Shri Ramdev Ji for attending the Deoband meeting by telling Muslims NOT to attend Ramdev Ji’s meetings and Yog Camps !!! Can you beat it!!! Of course nothing better is expected by those Pro-Taliban mindset group. This should be an eye opener to Ramdev Ji not to address such a fundamental Islamist group in future.

I personally feel, Ramdevji should not have started this muslim appeasement. Its of no use. Those who have ruled your country for 7 Centuries and would not listen to any suggestion or argument against their religion. To expect from them to listen, to your reasons! Ramdevji, despite his best intentions would fail and also take his Hindu followers as well.
