Daily rituals in Sri Jagannath temple hit

Puri, March 15 (PTI) The elaborate daily rituals at the 12th century Sri Jagannath temple here went haywire today due to protests by a group of priests against hike in ‘darshan’ fee in the sanctum sanctorum.

Sri Jagannath Temple Managing Committee decided to effect a four-fold fee hike for ‘Paramanik Darshan’ (glimpse of the deities from very close range) of Lord Jagannath, Balbhadra and Subhadra from today.

In protest against the decision, ‘Pratihari Sevaks’, who check the tickets of devotees and close the doors in front of the sanctum sanctorum, stayed away from the shrine causing disruption in the rituals.

As a result, no food was served to the deities throughout the day.

However, after the day-long impasse, normalcy was restored in the evening with the opening of the temple kitchen.

Hindu Existence condemns both the hike of  ‘Paramanik Darshan’ fees in four fold and the strike of opposing ‘Pratihari Sevaks’.

As per Hindu belief Lord Vishnu uses to bathe, shine, dine and rest in four different holy places in the four corners of Bharata Varsha at Rameswaram, Dwarka, Badrinath and Puri, mostly known as Chardham. The four Shankara Mutths were established in these strategical points in Bharata by Adi Shankara for the cultural unification of this holy land as a land-mark of Sanatana Dharma. The Jagannath Puri is the lovable place to dine of My Lord. But we put impediment in the Lord’s kitchen. It is our imprudence that made a lot of improper way of misdeed. My Lord ! Forgive us !!
