3 shot, many injured in Hindu-Muslim clashes in Meerut, BJP uploads photos

Amit Sharma | Indian Express | Meerut | May 10, 2014::  At least a dozen people were injured in a communal clash that lasted for nearly two hours in Meerut on Saturday. Three of the injured are reported to have suffered bullet injuries, and one is said to be critical.

According to reports, the violence started after a scuffle between Hindus and Muslims over putting up a fence around a well outside a mosque in Teergaraan area here. The clashes then spread to the nearby areas of Bazaza Bazar, Lala Bazar and Budhana gate. Both the groups are alleged to have fired at each other.

BJP corporator Vijay Anand, who was among the first to reach Teergaraan, was allegedly manhandled and his motorcycle was set on fire.

“I reached the place carrying a copy of the local court verdict which banned any construction around the well. The court held that it is a public property as a Jain temple is also located in the area. Nobody paid heed to me. They pushed me aside and set my bike ablaze while the police took no action,” alleged Anand.

Local BJP leaders uploaded photographs of the youth who is reported to be critically injured on Facebook and WhatsApp.

Party supporters, led by Meerut Mayor Ravikant Ahluwallia, staged protests in the affected area.

“The police did not react in time, as a result of which the clash escalated. The local police are operating at the behest of the ruling party as they remained soft towards members of the minority community who started the trouble,” alleged Ahluwallia. (input: PTI).

फिर सुलगने लगा उत्तर प्रदेश? मेरठ में सांप्रदायिक तनाव, दो दर्जन से अधिक घायल

Dainikbhaskar.com | Meerut | May 10, 2014:: क्‍या पश्चिमी यूपी में सांप्रदायिक तनाव की आग फिर से सुलग सकती है? मुजफ्फरनगर में शुक्रवार को हुए सांप्रदायिक तनाव के बाद शनिवार को मेरठ में भी कुछ ऐसा ही वाकया सामने आया। मेरठ में क्रांति दिवस के अवसर पर शनिवार को दो समुदायों के लोग आमने-सामने आ गए। विवाद तीरगरान मोहल्ले में नगर निगम की जमीन पर समुदाय विशेष के लोगों द्वारा जबरन प्याऊ लगाए जाने को लेकर शुरू हुआ और नौबत पथराव और फायरिंग तक पहुंच गई। इसमें दो दर्जन से अधिक लोग घायल हो गए।

पुलिस के सामने हुई दूसरी बार हुई फायरिंग

दूसरी बार फायरिंग की घटना पुलिस के सामने हुई। मुंह पर कपड़ा बांधकर आधा दर्जन से अधिक लोग वहां पहुंचे और उन्होंने भीड़ की ओर तमंचों से फायर करने शुरू कर दिए। फायरिंग हुई एसपी सिटी ओमप्रकाश और सीओ वहीं मौजूद थे। किसी अधिकारी ने हमलावरों के पर तुरंत जवाबी कार्रवाई नहीं की बल्कि, गोली चलने पर खुद ही वहां से जान बचाने को दौड़ पड़े।

देर शाम डीएम नवदीप रिणवा ने कोतवाली में कहा कि फिलहाल स्थिति कंट्रोल में है। उन्होंने अपील करते हुए कहा कि शहरवासी किसी तरह की अफवाहों पर ध्यान न दें। डीएम ने घटना में रात आठ बजे तक किसी की भी मौत होने की पुष्टि नहीं की है।

शुभम के सिर में लगी गोली 

दो समुदायों के बीच हुए संघर्ष में गोली लगने से घायल शुभम रस्तोगी की हालत अधिक चिंता जनक है। उसके सिर में गोली गली है। उसकी हालत अभी खतरे से बाहर नहीं है। केएमसी अस्पताल में भर्ती एक घायल का नाम गोपाल निवासी ठठेरवाढ़ा बताया गया है, जबकि दूसरा घायल पटेलनगर का बताया गया है।

पथराव में भी दो दर्जन से अधिक लोग चोटिल हो गए। देर शाम सांसद राजेंद्र अग्रवाल और विधायक सत्यप्रकाश अग्रवाल भी मौके पर पहुंचे। उन्होंने भी घटना के प्रति रोष जताया और पुलिस प्रशासन को आड़े हाथ लिया। समाचार लिखे जाने तक घटना के संबंध में किसी भी पक्ष की ओर से रिपोर्ट दर्ज नहीं कराई गई थी।
