Mohua Chatterjee | TNN | New Delhi | Jun 1, 2015:: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with his long association with the Ramakrishna Mission, has packed in a visit to the Ramakrishna Mission Math in Dhaka during his first visit to Bangladesh next weekend, where his main agenda will be the signing of the land boundary agreement (LBA) between the two countries.
To facilitate Modi’s visit to the Dhaka Math, general secretary of the Belur Ramakrishna Mission Swami Suhitananda will be in Dhaka and coordinate with Math officials there. The Dhaka Ramakrishna Mission Math is a branch of the Belur Math, which Modi visited last month when he was in Kolkata.
Modi also plans to touch Hindu destinations in Dhaka by visiting the state-owned Dhakeshwari temple, known as the Dhakeshwari Jatiyo Mandir. Exactly a year ago in June 2014, when foreign minister Sushma Swaraj took her first trip abroad, to Bangladesh, she visited and prayed at the 12th century temple, built by the Sena dynasty king Ballal Sen and considered an essential part of Dhaka’s cultural heritage. The city of Dhaka derives its name from Dhakeshwari, which means goddess of Dhaka.
