VHP Delhi demands ban on sale of beef in the Capital, calls agitation.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad writes to Lieutenant Governor to stop ‘Beef Sale’ in Delhi hotels or any meat shop forthwith.

HENB | New Delhi | Nov 3, 2015::  Vishwa Hindu Parishad Delhi today sent a letter to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Mr. Najeeb Jung, complaining sale of beef in many hotels, restaurants and food marts of Delhi. The letter jointly signed by the Kshetriya Gau Raksha Pramukh shri Rashtra Prakash and the Delhi state joint Secretary of VHP shri Ram Pal Singh Yadav appealed the head of the national capital region to stop sale of Beef in Delhi forthwith.

Releasing the letter to the media, the spokesperson of Vishwa Hindu Parishad,  Shri Vinod Bansal said that the information of Beef sale in the national capital was pouring in since last many days. The Kerala House incidence, the latest sting telecasted on some national media channels and secular mentality for a ‘Beef Jihad’ have exposed such incidents that openly challenge the law of the land and religious sentiments of Hindus.

“VHP appealed to LG to issue immediate necessary directions to the concerned licensing and other law enforcing authorities to ensure implementation of law of the land, nab the culprits and stop hurting religious sentiments of Hindus,” said the letter.

A copy of the letter has also been sent to Union Home Ministry, Commissioner of Police, Mayors and Commissioners of Municipal Corporations of Delhi and hotels, restaurants and food joints of Delhi for implementation of the law.

“We have categorically stated that ‘in case the sale or serving of beef do not stopped forthwith, we will have to launch an agitation to protect the law’,” Mr Bansal said.

Highlighting provisions of the Delhi Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act, 1994, the letter said, “Despite complete prohibition on sale, purchase, possession and consumption of beef in Delhi, various hotels, restaurants and food joints are selling beef”.

“A little reference to any dictionary available clearly exposes the dubious arguments of those who are trying to mislead the masses that buffalo meat is also covered under the definition of beef,” the letter said.

As per the provisions of Delhi Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act, 1994, the offenders of selling meats of any agricultural animal are punishable with Penalty for contravention of sections 8 or 9. Whoever contravenes the provision of sections 8 or 9 shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year or fine which may extend to two thousand rupees.

Sections 8 or 9 read as:

Sec. 8. Prohibition on possession of flesh of Agricultural Cattle. Notwithstanding anything contained in any other law for the time being in force no person shall have in his possession flesh of any agricultural slaughtered in contravention of the provisions of this Act.

AND Sec. 9. Prohibition on possession of flesh of Agricultural Cattle slaughtered outside Delhi. No person shall have in his possession flesh of any agricultural cattle slaughtered outside Delhi.

The scheduled agricultural cattle in the 1994 Act are defined as:

SCHEDULE [See Section 2(a)] 1. Cows of all ages 2. Calves of Cows of all ages 3. Bulls 4. Bullocks.

The VHP Delhi unit thinks that the uproar for any beef propagation in Delhi is barely violative of the existing “beef Ban” under  appropriate law. Whoever conflicts with the law must be taken under strict provisions of it. “We will have to launch an agitation to protect the law”, the VHP spokesperson added.
