Prakash Singh | HENB | Lucknow | Jan 6, 2016:: An angry Jihadi mob set fire to a police station in Deoria district of Poorvanchal region in Uttar Pradesh after the body of a missing Muslim youth was recovered from a river on Wednesday.

According to reports, Rehmatullah, 21, has been missing for the last seven days, and on Wednesday afternoon, his body was found floating in river Rapti.

‘A missing complaint was lodged with Madanpur police station in the rural outskirts of the district. The police were probing into the incident. Some anti-social elements attacked the policemen when they were fishing out the body from the river,’ said district magistrate Anita Srivastava.

Soon after the policemen took the body to the mortuary, a mob attacked the police station. It is reported that the angry mob shouted Jihad Slogans like “Allah ho Akabar” and “Pakistan Zindabad”. The motivated attack was targeted upon the Hindu police personnel of the vandalized police station.

‘We could not do anything but save our lives. They were hundreds in numbers and carrying petrol and diesel in jerry cans.

‘Before we could understand anything, they torched our post,’ Abhishek Srivastav, a constable posted at the Madanpur PS told Mail Today.

‘All our records, maalkhana (arms room), our government and private vehicles have been reduces to ashes… we have launched an operation to identify the hooligans,’ said Superintendent of Police Mohammad Imran.

According to reports, the official vehicle of the DSP, station officer, over 25 motorcycles of the personnel and over 30 confiscated vehicles were also torched. Some 10 police persons were also injured with Jihadi brick pelting.

‘Forces from other police stations of the districts and paramilitary forces have been roped in. The situation is under control,’ added the SP.

Our HENB correspondent Shalini Prakash conveyed us from Deoria that 71 miscreant Muslims were arrested on Friday by police for this attack on Madanpur police station out of which 16 were booked for attacking  police station and other 55 were arrested for breach of peace and creating communal tension in the locality.

The mastermind of this Jihadi attack Imran who is also a Gram Panchayet Pradhanpati (Village Chief ) of Madanpur, was arrested on Friday while coming out from a nearby Mosque.
