Shiv Sena-BJP corporators strongly protest as AIMIM members refuse to sing Vande Mataram in Aurangabad Municipal Corporation.

Sucheta Mishra | HENB | Aurangabad | Aug 19, 2017:: Many of  Shiv Sena and BJP corporators on Saturday created a ruckus in Aurangabad Municipal Corporation after two AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen) corporators refused to stand for National Song ‘Vande Mataram’, IANS reported. The two AIMIM corporators, later suspended, had refused to sing or stand up for ‘Vande Mataram’ when it was sung at the start of the day’s proceedings in the Municipal Corporation on Saturday. Protesting against AIMIM’s act, ruling Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party corporators rushed to the well of the house and raised loud slogans against the AIMIM corporators.

IANS reports that ruling and the Opposition corporators resorted to fisticuffs, yanking off of microphones from tables, breaking fans and damaging under furniture and fittings in the assembly hall. Objecting strongly to AIMIM Corporators’ act, BJP-Shiv Sena raised slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, and “If you want to live in this country, you will have to sing ‘Vande Mataram’,” and flung their shawls around in the hall. AMC Mayor Bhagwandas Ghadamode (BJP) had to adjourned the proceedings twice and later announce the suspension of the two AIMIM corporators for a day.

Speaking to IANS, AIMIM MLA Imtiaz Jaleel said there is no law that mandates people to stand up during the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’. “However, we are very clear that whenever ‘Vande Mataram’ is rendered we must stand up,” Jaleel said, he added that he would seeks details of the incidents in the AMC house from his party corporators. AIMIM has strong presence in the house with 25 corporators, while the ruling Shiv Sena has 29 and the BJP 22. Opposition members include eight from the Congress, three of the Nationalist Congress Party and 24 independents/others in the 113-member AMC house.

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation’s Muslim corporators have sent a strong message to the Nation that they will stop singing Vande Matarm wherever they will be in majority in any body.
