Azad Hind Sena Members protested against the court order that had banned the sale of firecrackers n Delhi.
Sunetra Malhotra | HENB | New Delhi | Oct 17, 2017:: Fourteen people from a Hindu outfit were detained today for bursting firecrackers outside the Supreme Court to protest the temporary ban on the sale of firecrackers by the apex court.
The police were informed about the protest outside ‘D’ gate of the Supreme Court. The members, who claimed to be from an outfit Azad Hind Sena, burst firecrackers outside the apex court.
The arrested persons were taken to the Tilak Marg police station. The members, who claimed to be part of the Azad Hind Sena, were led by their leader identified as Satpal Malhotra, police said.
The group protested against the court order that had banned the sale of firecrackers n Delhi. However, the group ignored the intention of the court behind the ban was to control Delhi’s worsening air pollution.
The incident came moments after Delhi BJP spokesperson Tajinder Bagga distributed bags full of crackers to slum kids in Hari Nagar area in West Delhi.
The BJP leader also tweeted photos and a video of him giving out firecrackers to the children but claimed that just distribution did not amount to contempt of court.
He also got his pictures clicked and got them uploaded on microblogging website Twitter.
Last week Bagga had announced that he would procure firecrackers “worth Rs 50,000 and give them to the children living in the slums of Hari Nagar so that they can celebrate Diwali.”
“It will not be a violation or defamation of the Supreme Court order because the court has only banned the sale of firecrackers. It has not put a ban on buying or bursting them,” Bagga had said to HENB.
The SC has ruled that firecrackers would not be sold in Delhi-NCR till November 01.
On the other side, Delhi Police said that they will won’t take any action against Bagga as distributing crackers as a gift is not a crime.
