B Upendran | HENB | Hyderabad | Jan 26, 2018:: The ‘Bharat Mata Pujan’ or the ‘Worship of Mother India’ through out India by BJP on Republic Day this year has hit the headlines for its spectacular success culminating the spontaneous public response and catering various social services and performing cultural programmes. Like many other places of Bharat Mata Pujan, Hyderabad explored it through a Bharatmata Maha Aarti in the evening of Republic day.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi has slammed Telangana BJP MLA G Kishan Reddy’s decision to perform a Maha Aarti pooja to Bharat Mata on Republic Day.
The gala cultural programme based on ‘Unity in Diversity’ and ‘Bharat Mata Maha Aarti’ was arranged by the Amberpet MLA G Kishan Reddy on January 26, at Necklace road in Hyderabad, under the blessings of Swami Paripoornanda Ji and other saints. People of all walks of life cutting the edge of caste, creed and religion participated in the programme.
An irritaed AIMIM leader Owaisi said, “BJP doesn’t believe in Indian nationalism, it believes in Hindutva nationalism. This Hindutva Nationalism is very narrow, parochial and exclusive,” he told TNM+.
“Even on Republic Day, which is a day where we celebrate our constitution which talks about justice, fraternity, equality, liberty and secularism, these are anathema to the BJP and hence they are giving a religious colour to this day,” Owaisi remarked.
Some communal and subversive elements have also criticized the move for giving a religious colour to Bharat Mata, and making it exclusively for the Hindu religion.
As part of Republic Day celebrations, the BJP organised several events, and one of them was the Maha Arati in Hyderabad.
The anti-Hindu activist and writer Prof Kancha Ilaiah Shepherd also echoed the same.
He said, “Republic Day is a day to celebrate our constitution which promotes secularism. Any move which deviates from secularism is not nationalism. Nationalism should be promoting secularism and socialism People can celebrate Republic Day in their own way. But an elected member holding an office of legislative assembly should not resort to this type of programme.”
“He is being elected to serve all the people in his constituency. Giving a religious colour to the republic day is unfortunate,” he said. Incidentally the two words ‘Secular’ and ‘Socialist’ were inserted in the preamble of the Indian constitution through 42nd amendment in 1976 emergency period and were not existed initially.
Meanwhile, speaking to HENB, the MLA said there was nothing wrong in worshiping Bharat Mata. “Bharat Mata is our National identity. Many freedom fighters sacrificed their lives chanting Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram. Some fringe elements like AIMIM and their allied communal forces may oppose Bharat Mata ki Jai or Vande Mataram, but large section of Muslim people have no problem to say Bharat Mata ki Jai or Vande Mataram”, Reddy added.
Reddy thanked all concerned and people of Hyderabad for their great participation in Bhara Mata Maha Aarti.
