Ayodhya hearing likely to finish by Oct 18, says SC.

Avdhesh Sharma | HENB | New Delhi | Sept 18, 2019::  The five-judge Supreme Court bench hearing the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land title case on Wednesday set October 18 target to complete hearing in the case. “Let us make a joint effort to conclude the same by Oct 18”, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said.

Chief Justice Gogoi had yesterday asked the parties to share a tentative schedule for concluding their arguments. The bench, which has heard the parties for 25 days, started holding daily hearings in this case last month.

The five judges constitution bench comprising CJI, S A Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S A Nazeer had yesterday asked the parties to indicate a tentative schedule to enable the judges to figure how much time they have to write the judgment.

Current Cheif Justice Gogoi retires as the CJI on November 17.

SC also tells the parties to address the court on the issue of how to mouldy the relief. The Allahabad HC had divided the disputed land into three equal parts and allotted one part each to Deity Ram Lalla, Nirmohi Akhara and Sunni Wakf Board.

SC says while the hearing will go on, the mediation panel can go ahead with negotiations and if a settlement is reached, the same could be filed before the SC.

Sunni Wakf board and Nirvani Akhara had written to the SC appointed mediation panel comprising ex-SC judge FMI Kalifulla, renowned mediator Sriram Panchu and spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravishankar for resumption of mediation for a negotiated settlement.

Showing its earnest manner to resolve the long pending disputes between Hindus and Muslims, SC also says if the parties desire to settle the dispute through SC appointed mediation panel, they are free to do so. But since the hearing is at advanced stage, it will continue in SC, the SC bench headed by CJI said.
