Sribala Vadlapatla | TNN |  Hyderabad | Aug 24:: BJP MLA T Raja Singh, who was arrested Tuesday (and released by a court after hours of his arrest) for his remarks against the Prophet, remained defiant in the face of his suspension from the party, saying he had done nothing wrong and would remain a “loyal foot soldier” of PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah. “More than the party, protecting dharma (Sanatan Vaidik Hindu Dharma) is important for me,” he also said.

While the allegedly hurtful video that invited the backlash, including a call for Raja’s beheading, was taken down by social media platforms, the MLA threatened to release “part two” of the clip that purportedly contains more such remarks.

Police registered separate cases against Raja at Dabeerpura and Mangalhat, charging him with promoting enmity between different groups, outraging religious sentiments, deliberate and malicious acts, and criminal intimidation. “We have been receiving complaints against him at various police stations across the city,” a police official said. “All cases will be clubbed.”

The controversy began with Raja insisting he would not allow stand-up comic Munawar Faruqui to perform in Hyderabad on August 21, threatening to set the venue on fire if the show wasn’t cancelled. He apparently circulated the video that led to his arrest on August 20, even airing it on a local TV channel, after the TRS government declared Faruqui would perform in the city as scheduled.

Ahead of the last assembly polls in UP, Raja had said voters’ homes would be bulldozed if they did not vote for CM Yogi Adityanath.

Sources in BJP said the party decided to act swiftly against Raja because it didn’t want to affect the momentum of its campaign against TRS government ahead of next year’ assembly polls and the Munugode assembly bypoll before that. Union home minister Shah was there on Sunday, calling for an end to “corrupt” TRS regime at a “samara bheri” (war cry) rally.

    Partys will come and go. Dharma is permanent. Raja Singh is correct.

    It’s getting ridiculous now: no one should be punished for exposing what Islam’s own scriptures say about its ‘prophet’.

    If Muslims can’t handle the fact that they portray him as a paedophile, they should either reject the relevant scriptures, reject their faith or leave India and go somewhere where they can be insulated from the truth.
