Why Narendra Modi Govt is deliberately delaying the case in Supreme Court on Ram Setu to be declared as National Heritage Monument.
Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | Haridwar | Oct 15, 2022:: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Government to file its reply in the plea filed by Rajya sabha MP and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy seeking Ram Setu to be declared as a national heritage monument. The Bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli directed the Centre to file its reply when Swamy complained that for the past eight years the Government is evading it.
“Union of India has failed to file its affidavit. The matter is pending for eight years. They should file an affidavit and say when will they decide. It has been going on and on. They should file a counter. If they are opposing they have to say so. Otherwise they are supporting, there is no other way,” Swamy told the Court. The bench asked ASG Madhvi Divan to file the reply before the next date of hearing.
Ram Sethu, also known as Adam’s bridge as claimed by Christian missionary lobby, is a chain of limestone shoals between Pamban Island, off the south-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, and Mannar Island, off the north-western coast of Sri Lanka.
Though the Left and Dravida school of historians try to establish the Ram Setu or Adam’s Bridge as natural creation, the eminent geologists in Discovery Science Channel analyzed the satellite pictures of Ram Setu as captured by NASA and claimed it as a man made super-human work referring to the making of a bridge by the banara sena connected to the rescue of Sita by lord Rama from Ravan’s Lanka as told in Ramayana.
Swamy had raised the issue of declaration of Ram Sethu as a national monument in his PIL against the controversial Sethusamudram Ship Channel project. The PIL was initiated before Madras High Court.
The apex court transferred the plea before itself in 2007 and stayed work for the project on the Sethu Samudram project. Subsequently, Center had informed the court that owing to the “socio-economic disadvantages” of the project, it was willing to explore another route to the shipping channel project without damaging the Ram Sethu.
Dr. Swamy in his petition has sought the Top Court to pass an order and direct the Union of India to engage the Geological Survey of India and Archeological Survey of India to conduct a detailed survey with respect to Ram Setu as it is an ancient monument of national importance.
On November 13, 2019, the apex court had granted Center six weeks to clarify its stand on the Ram Sethu. It had also granted Swamy liberty to approach the court if the response of the Center was not filed.
In August, before a bench of Justices Chandrachud and Bopanna, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had submitted before the court that he will take stock of the situation and ascertain whether a counter must be filed as two or three affidavits had already been filed in the matter.
Swamy, however, had told the court that the affidavits had been filed in the disposed of matter pertaining to Sethu Samudram and not the present one.
From the row on Ram Setu in the Supreme court, it is clear that the Central Govt led by PM Modi has been delaying in the instant case and factually putting hindrance for the declaration of Ram Setu as a National Heritage Monument.
But, it is highly interesting that a center right govt in India believed as having Hindu ideology under the leadership of a Hindutva poster boy is not serious enough to declare Ram Setu as a national heritage monument.
As the ‘perpetrated’ Sethusamudram Ship Channel project was stalled on various grounds like ecological dis-balance, source out of Thorium reserve and hurting the Hindu sentiment by destroying a historical evidence connected to Lord Rama and Ramayana; the demand made by Dr Swamy to declare Ram Setu as a National Heritage Monument was definitely a proper and praiseworthy step. But, why Modi Govt in the center is deliberately delaying the case in Supreme Court?
The reasons cannot be ascertained absolutely right, but can be defined in multiple reasons evident from circumstantial evidences as below:
From the beginning it is seen the BJP Masterstroke Men had their aversion to Dr Subramanian Swamy from a fear psychosis as Swamy was never posed as a palatable personality for the perpetrating politicians. So, Swamy was never seen as a Minister in Finance or Law, while he possessed his best caliber for those.
As a free-thinker, positive Hinduist and master of many things, the views of Swamy could not be matched with the Bharatiya Janata Party line as found different issues like financial policies, foreign policies and law matters including Prevention of Cow Slaughter, Places of Worship Act and even in Ramjanmabhoomi matters. Swamy’s Virat Hindu concept could not be corroborated with the BJP’s pseudo Hindutva concept of election politics.
In the contrast of both academic and ideological aspects, Modi-Shah duo developed an animosity with Dr Swamy making an anti-Swamy lobby within the BJP leadership and supporters both.
In such a situation, Ram Setu issue raised by Swamy has been made as another spate of rivalry within BJP.
This point cannot be ignored that the BJP govt has yet to set a strong grip upon the Govt officials in the related Departments in concerned ministries and as a matter of fact some power within the power are favoring the Adam’s Bridge lobby to deter the declaration of Ram Setu as a National Heritage Monument.
More than that, the Chanakyas in BJP may think that declaring Ram Setu as National Heritage Monument will stop their fanciful adventure in Tamil Nadu politics for ever believing in the absurd equation that Lord Rama is still unbearable in the electorate line of the state as vitiated by the DMK all along.
And lastly its amazing to think about a secret deal with any anti-Indian lobby for the revival of the controversial Sethusamudram Ship Channel project once again.
Whatever may be, it is grossly unfortunate the Ram Setu is not declared yet as a National Heritage Monument dishonoring Lord Rama and Ramayana.
But, history will write the right things about the role of Dr Subramanian Swamy and Bharatiya Janata Party on Ram Setu as a National Heritage Monument in India or not.

are against it are enemies of Sanatan Bharat. But why? There is no
