Shiv Sena Hindustan leader Sudhir Suri shot dead in Amritsar as a ‘targeted killing’. Punjab Police to probe whether the assailant is attached with any Khalistani sympathizer terrorist group.  

Swati Singh Tomar | HENB | New Delhi | Nov 4, 2022:: Shiv Sena Hindustan leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead by an unidentified assailant while he was sitting on a dharna outside a temple in Punjab’s Amritsar on Friday.

The demonstrators were under the cover of police personnel but the attacker went up to the roof of an adjoining building and fired at Suri.

Earlier today, Mr Suri had got into an argument with some men from the management of Gopal Mandir near Majitha Road — one of the busiest places in the city — over alleged sacrilege of idols. He was live on Facebook barely an hour before the attack, showing some older idols “shamelessly dumped in garbage”. “We will not tolerate such sacrilege, even if by fellow Hindus,” he said in that video.

In Punjab, a number of Hindutva outfits use the name ‘Shiv Sena’, but don’t formally have anything to do with the Maharashtra-based party founded by Bal Thackeray. The Shiv Sena outfit in Punjab is also known as Shiv Sena Taksali.

The assailant fired more than five shots at the Shiv Sena leader. He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, they said. Sources said the attacker had come to the place with three others in an SUV but they escaped.

Mr Suri, who was mostly known for his fiery — and allegedly ‘communal’ — video messages on social media targeting some subversive Sikh outfits and Khalistan supporters in particular. Police did not draw a connection as yet but likely to probe whether the assailant is attached with any Khalistani sympathizer terrorist group.

Suri was on the hit list of several gangsters for a long time and getting security with around eight Punjab Police personnel being attached with him, they said.

Reacting to the incident, Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma said the law and order situation has completely broken down in the state.

The killing, comes merely months after the murder, in May, of another prominent person with police security — singer Sidhu Moosewala — raising questions over law and order under Bhagwant Mann’s Aam Aadmi Party that came to power in March.

BJP leader Tejinder Singh Bagga of Delhi termed it a failure of AAP government in Punjab. He sought the resignation of CM Bhagwant Mann on account of the law and order situation.

State Congress chief Amarinder Singh ‘Raja’ Warring tweeted: “Law and order is deteriorating and going from bad to worse. Congress condemns murderous attack on Shiv Sena leader in Amritsar. Political differences apart, violence is unacceptable. Culprits must be brought to book.”

   They, the killers behind the curtains have not the courage to show their face.
   If killing is their weapon, then they must be eliminated completely.
   They who want Khalistan, then why not destroying Pakistan? Half of Punjab is
   given to the Allah-killers called Pakistan. And what about the ex-colonial
   master. Why not fighting them? Killing Hindus in their own country seems to
   be easy. Once more; time has come to put the Army in charge to clean-up
   Sanatan Bharat. Killers must be wiped-out. This is a message of Sri Hanuman
   Seva Sena.
