Nandita Paul | HENB | Dhaka | June 11, 2023:: A Hindu man was reportedly hacked to death by suspected Islamist miscreants at Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district early Saturday.

The incident happened at around 2.30 am in Tongir Par area under Ward No-5 of Rajganj union in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Dulal Chandra Das, 50, son of Harolal Chandra Das, a resident of the area.

According to locals and family members, Dulal has been farming fish in a leased pond adjacent to his house for last two years and was engaged in related business.  He used to sit on the bank of the pond every night to guard the pond. On Friday night, he went to the bank as usual to guard the pond but a neighbor found his blood-stained body as sitting in the chair around 3 am when he went there to ask him about a fishing net.

Dulal and his brother started the fish farming business two years ago at a pond adjacent to Kali temple in Tongir Par area and, he used to guard the pond every night.

Begumganj Police Station officer-in-charge Mir Jahedul Haque Rony said being informed, police recovered the body in the morning and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

“Dulal was hacked to death by some miscreants and the body has several injury marks on its head, face, and neck. Police are investigating the incident and legal actions would be taken in this regard,” the OC added.

Actually, the eyewitnesses confirmed that Dulal was killed in a throat slit according to the Halal way as preferred by the terrorists of ISIS or other Jihadi groups.

Villagers said that Dulal was facing trouble as the local Muslim hooligans used to collect high ransoms to allow the business in a peaceful way. But, paying much money to the hooligans was a difficult matter to run his business by the deceased and he also tried to avoid the pressure as such.

Mir Jahedul Haque Roni, Begumganj police station officer-in-charge, said that Dulal was killed between 2:00am and 3:00am on Friday.

‘So far, the police have not arrested anyone in this incident. We are working to unravel the mystery of the murder,’ he added.

Attack on minority Hindus in Bangladesh has been turned as a regular incident to curtail their Human Rights in the hands of Islamist people in the country.
