Now, in  CCTV footage that is going viral on social media, a Muslim municipal clerk from UP’s Shahjahanpur Municipality office can be seen molesting a Hindu woman employee joyfully.

According to news reports, as the matter came to light after the video went viral, the municipality chairman sought clarification from both employees. In addition to this, further action is being taken in the matter by the authorities.

In the video posted on Twitter, the man, identified as Babu Shafiq alias Gaffar, can be seen pulling the woman’s hand towards himself as she tries to move back. Initially, Gaffar tried to touch the woman very inappropriately. He then put his arms around her waist and pulls her closer to him in a kissing position. After a brief moment of staying closer, as if frozen, the woman walks out of the room. From the attire of the victim woman, it was supposed a Hindu, and such a claim was supported by another source.  However, the video inputs were hazy and could not be confirmed by other scientific or digital verification. A further investigation of the video footage by the authority is still awaited.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal react

Owing to the religious identity of the municipal officer, soon after the video went viral, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal demanded action. As per reports, Bajrang Dal has said that in many places in Shahjahanpur “jihadi” people are making Hindu women and girls their victims. VHP and Bajrang Dal activists demand a probe to crack on this case whether connected with a ‘Love Jihad’ tangle.

Denial by the accused and provision of punishment under the law

Meanwhile, Shafiq alias Gaffar has claimed the widely circulating video was fake with the intention to malign his public image.

In India, there is a strict provision of punishment for any offender under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, and  Some provisions of the Indian Penal Code,1860.
