B Upendran | HENB | Shivamogga | Oct 2, 2023:: Communal violence was reported in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district. Almost 60 people have been arrested so far in relation to the clashes. Shivamogga has shown the current Islamic radicalization in Karnataka.
Section 144 has been imposed in various parts of the district in the wake of the violence. Hindu houses and businesses were targeted. More than 100 people were injured in the clash and stone-pelting. Police on duty were also attacked by the violent Muslim mob who took part in the procession with swords and other lethal weapons.. More than 50 persons were taken into custody, as police said.
Disputes during a religious procession on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi escalated into clashes between two communities post-Sunday evening.
Muslim miscreants incited the violence after spreading rumours about stone pelting during the procession. Angry mobs hurled stones, damaging Hindu houses and vehicles and injuring common people.
On Monday, October 2, the district administration imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the Ragi Gudda area of Shivamogga in Karnataka. The order came after instances of stone-pelting and communal violence on Sunday night starting some times after evening.
Police sources told PTI that an angry mob is said to have thrown stones at a few houses and vehicles, and injured several people, allegedly following the rumours that there was a stone pelting on the Eid Milad procession on Sunday.

Additional forces, including the Rapid Action Force, were in the town. The police said that some people were taken into custody.
On Sunday, there were protests in the same area over a cutout that was put out as part of the procession, as the police had covered a portion of it due to a “bit controversial (content)”, which had upset the people of a community, a police official said.
The controversial Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession was carried out with the cutout of anti-Hindu rulers Tipu Sultan and Aurangzeb with anti-Hindu Islamic slogans. In the procession, a distorted Indian Map, rather undivided India was also shown in green under Islamic rule. There was also a tableau carrying a huge dagger with an Islamic inscription glorifying Allah and unleashing Jihad against non-Muslims.
BJP and Hindu organisations in the state condemned the Siddaramaiah Government for allowing such communal processions in Karnataka.
Coming back to power in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah Government is appeasing the Muslim community as its vote bank and putting the Hindus in the state under the threat of Islamist elements under seer indulgence.
