‘Jai Shri Ram’ hater Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee declared ‘Ram Navami’ as holiday in WB this year. 

No Hate to Ram for Vote: West Bengal Govt declares Ram Navami as public holiday under the instruction of CM Mamata Banerjee. 

Aranya Das | Kolkata | HENB | March 10, 2024:: Though critics say many things about it quoting the Bengali proverb, ‘Bhuter Mukhe Ramnam‘ ( Name of Lord Ram in the mouth of ghosts – meaning an absurd thing); the reality of election ahead came to fore that West Bengal Chief Minister who is known for her allergy to ‘Jai Shri Ram’, declared  Ram Navami’ as holiday in West Bengal this year.

Through an notification No. 1235-F(P2) Dt 09.03.2024, Ram Navami has been declared as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881. Though, the declaration issued by Dr Manoj Pant, Additional Chief Secretary, Govt of West Bengal could not be verified from any Govt source, the pattern of the notification conforms the other Govt orders as usual.

This exercise of declaring Ram Navami as a public holiday denotes a varied concern of Mamata Banerjee to recapture her declining vote bank among the devotees of Lord Rama in Bengal who are frustrated with the ‘anti-Jai Shri Ram’ mental block of their Chief Minister.

In many occasions earlier, Mamata Banerjee lost her cool hearing Jai Shri Ram Slogan and even tried to chase the public who were raising Jai Shri ram slogan, getting down from her convoy. Even an infuriated Mamata Banerjee hurled abusive languages to the public who raised Jai Shri Ram slogans and blamed them as ‘anti-social’ and ‘outsiders’.

But, apprehending a huge sensation from the devotees of Lord Ram, especially after Ayodhya Ram Temple consecration, Mamata Banerjee could not find other way than to declare Ram Navami as a public Holiday in West Bengal to combat the BJP’s upsurge in the name of Lord Ram.

For her Muslim appeasement policy, Mamata Banerjee always tried to hurt Hindu sentiments  by curtailing or changing Vijaya Dashami (immersion of Durga idols) timings or giving much honorarium to the Muslimn clerics ignoring their Hindu counterparts or allotting huge amount for Muslim beneficiaries undermining the demand of the Hindu beneficiaries in the state.

But, in these election days, in a very crucial phase in the coming general election, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banaerjee trying to taking a refuge on Lord Ram at least saying ‘Jay Siya Ram’ instead of ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
