Brampton Hindu temple attack: Canadian Police arrest Khalistani protest organiser Inderjeet Gosal.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | New Delhi | Nov 10, 2024:: Inderjeet Gosal, the main organizer of the Khalistani protests in Canada, has been arrested and charged with assault with a weapon for his role in the violent invasion of a Hindu temple in Brampton. Gosal is reportedly the general counsel for Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) leader Gurpatwant Pannun and took over as the main Canadian organizer of the Khalistan referendum after Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s death.

The arrest comes after a series of violent demonstrations outside Hindu temples and gurdwaras in the Toronto area, which resulted in three men being charged and a police officer suspended. The Canadian government has condemned the attacks, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stating that “every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely”.

The Peel Regional Police (PRP) announced that Inderjeet Gosal, the chief organiser of the Khalistani protests in Canada, was arrested and charged in connection with the violent invasion of a Hindu temple in Brampton, on Friday.

Though, Gosal was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date, the Peel Regional Police have formed a Strategic Investigative Team to continue looking into the incidents from November 3 and 4. They said that these investigations take time and arrests are made as individuals are identified.

Gosal’s arrest is linked to the disruption of a consular event at the Hindu Sabha temple, leading to clashes between Khalistan supporters and Hindu worshippers. Three men were arrested for assault and related charges, with local leaders condemning the violence. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Canadian authorities to ensure justice and protect places of worship, while Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown announced plans to ban protests outside such sites and increase security measures.

Inderjeet Gosal is a key figure in the Khalistani movement in Canada, serving as the most trusted lieutenant of Gurpatwant Pannun, the general counsel of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). After Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s assassination in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023, Gosal took over as the primary organizer of the Khalistan referendum in Canada. Previously, Gosal also worked closely with Nijjar, the leader of the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF).

Gosal’s arrest is a significant development in the investigation into the Brampton Hind Sabha temple violence, which disrupted a consular event and led to clashes between Khalistan supporters and other worshippers of Hindu-Sikh-Jain faith.
