Biggest Hindutva Rally in Tamil Nadu to Liberate the Sacred Thirupparankundram Hill.

Hindutva Groups Rally in Tamil Nadu, Demand Control Over Sacred Thirupparankundram Hill Removing Jihadi Encroachments.

B Upendran | HENB |  Madurai | June 22, 2025::  – In a massive show of strength, Hindutva organisations in Tamil Nadu gathered lakhs of devotees from across the state for the Murugan Devotees Conference. The event, organised by the Hindu Munnani and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was a culmination of months-long agitations demanding complete control over the Thirupparankundram hill in Madurai, which they describe as the ‘Ayodhya struggle of the South’. It was the biggest ever show of strength with lakhs of Hindu people in Tamil Nadu.

The hill also has a centuries-old Sufi shrine and a mosque, which was allegedly built as part of a “Land Jihad” to encroach on the Hindu shrines worshiped by Sanatani people since time immemorial. In place of the “Jai Sri Ram” slogan, which came to symbolize the Ayodhya movement, “Muruganuku Aro Hara” and “Vetrivel Veeravel” have become the battle cry of the Hindutva mobilisation around the Thirupparankundram agitation.

A Battle Cry for Hindutva

The conference saw the presence of prominent leaders, including Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai. The event featured fiery speeches, with attendees chanting slogans like “Muruganuku Aro Hara” and “Vetrivel Veeravel.” These slogans have become the battle cry of the Hindutva mobilisation around the Thirupparankundram agitation, replacing the familiar “Jai Sri Ram” slogan that symbolised the Ayodhya movement.

Resolutions and Demands

Six resolutions were passed during the conference, urging Hindus to unite and prove their vote bank during elections. The resolutions also demanded the lighting of Karthigai Deepam at Thirupparankundram hill, protecting the hills that belong to Lord Murugan, and removing all government control over the administration of temples in Tamil Nadu. Participants were asked to take an oath not to allow religious conversions in their area.

AIADMK’s Shift in Stance

The event saw significant mobilisation from Southern Tamil Nadu, particularly from the Mukkulathor community strongholds. Notably, four former AIADMK ministers and present MLAs attended the conference, marking a notable shift in the party’s stance. This development suggests a potential alliance between the AIADMK and Hindutva forces in the state.

Criticism from Ruling Alliance

The conference was held amid criticism from parties in Tamil Nadu’s ruling alliance, such as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)). These parties questioned the motive behind holding the event and criticised the Sangh Parivar for trying to appropriate Murugan, a revered Tamil deity.

As the state gears up for future elections, the implications of this mobilisation will be closely watched. The Murugan Devotees Conference has set the stage for a significant showdown in Tamil Nadu’s politics, with Hindutva forces asserting their strength and unity.
