Hindutva Fissure Widens: Shiv Sena and BJP in Verbal Spat.

Maharashtra Politics: Fadnavis Fires Back at Eknath Shinde Over ‘True Hindutva’ Remarks.

Upendra Bharti | HENB | Mumbai | Nov 27, 2025:: The rift within Maharashtra’s ruling coalition is escalating, with a conflict brewing between the BJP and Shiv Sena, both claiming to adhere to the same Hindutva ideology. The two parties are engaged in a game of poaching leaders from each other and inducting them into their own parties. Eventually, the fissure is widening Hindutva politics in Maharashtra day by day.

The tension was palpable when Devendra Fadnavis launched a counterattack against Eknath Shinde, responding to Shinde’s statement about burning Lanka. Fadnavis said, “We will burn Lanka because we believe in Lord Shri Ram.” He further added, “We are the ones who chant Jai Shri Ram. We hoisted the flag of religion at the Ram temple.”

Fadnavis’s remarks came in response to Shinde’s statement comparing the BJP to Ravana, saying, “Ignore those who say anything about us.” Shinde had mentioned Ravana’s arrogance and the burning of his Lanka as a result, hinting at the BJP’s alleged arrogance.

Subsequently, Eknath Shinde traveled to Delhi and met with Home Minister Amit Shah. It was said that he received assurances that if the Shiv Sena did not induct BJP leaders into its party, the BJP would not do so either.

The conflict between the two parties is seen as a dispute over “true Hindutva” in Maharashtra politics. The BJP has inducted some Shiv Sena councillors into its party, angering the Shiv Sena, which feels that weakening its grassroots organization will lead to future problems.

The tension between the two parties is not new. Earlier, the BJP had distanced itself from Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, paving the way for Devendra Fadnavis’s chief ministership and dividing the Shiv Sena into two separate groups. Critics accuse the BJP of using divisive politics to grasp power for its own political interests, rather than prioritizing Hindutva politics.

BJP also did the same menace of disheartening the allies in Punjab, ending its relationship with Akali Dal. Critics always mention BJP’s divisive politics to grasp political power for its own interests without considering the ultimate benefits of Hindutva politics.

The situation remains tense, and it will be interesting to see how it unfolds.
