Hridya Bharti | HENB | Narayanpet, Telangana | June 2, 2026:: Tension gripped Narayanpet town in Telangana after a teenage Hindu girl’s death by suicide sparked protests and a shutdown call by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), with the organizations alleging that the incident was linked to what they described as a case of “love jihad.” Police, however, have stated that the allegations remain under investigation and have not been confirmed.

The deceased teenager allegedly had a relationship with an 18-year-old youth identified as Fasiuddin. Following the girl’s death, police arrested the accused and produced him before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Authorities have registered a case against him on charges of abetment to suicide and under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The incident triggered widespread protests in Narayanpet, with BJP and VHP leaders demanding a thorough investigation and stringent action against those found responsible. On Monday, party workers and activists gathered outside the Narayanpet Regional Transport Depot and attempted to block bus services as part of a bandh called in protest. Police intervened to prevent disruptions and detained several protesters.

The shutdown had a visible impact on daily life in the town, with numerous shops and business establishments remaining closed. Security was tightened across sensitive areas, and police conducted regular patrols to maintain law and order and prevent any communal disturbances.

During the protests, right-wing leaders alleged that the teenager had been deceived by the accused, who they claimed had gained her trust by promising marriage. According to them, he later pressured her to convert her religion and marry according to Muslim customs.

Senior BJP leader Nagurao Namaji alleged that Hindu girls in the region were being targeted through deceptive relationships. He claimed that the accused had assured the girl and her family of marriage before allegedly exerting pressure on her regarding religious conversion. Namaji further alleged that the teenager had been subjected to blackmail prior to her death.

Calling for justice, the BJP leader demanded a comprehensive probe into the circumstances surrounding the case and strict punishment for anyone found guilty. Protesters also sought stronger safeguards to protect young women from exploitation and called for swift completion of the investigation.

Police officials, meanwhile, urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading rumours or unverified information. They emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that all aspects of the case are being examined.

Authorities have not confirmed the allegations of forced religious conversion, blackmail, or the broader claims made by the protesting organizations. Investigators are currently gathering evidence and recording statements to establish the facts surrounding the teenager’s death.

As the probe continues, the case has drawn significant public attention and intensified political debate in the region, with competing narratives emerging over the circumstances that led to the tragedy. Officials have reiterated that conclusions should not be drawn until the investigation is completed and the evidence has been fully assessed.
