Pune Blast Near Dagdusheth Halwai TempleHE Media Bureau | Pune | 11 July 2014:: Terror strikes again at Pune.  Six persons were injured when an explosive placed on a motorcycle went off near a police station here on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The “low-intensity” blast occurred near Pharaskhana Police Station close to the famous Ganapati Temple commonly known as Dagdusheth Halwai Temple in the busy Budhwar Peth area around 2:30 pm. This place is populated with various snacks shops and confectioneries.

Top police officials and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad have reached the spot, while forensic experts are scouring the area to collect evidence, sources said, adding the condition of those injured, who were yet to be identified, was not serious.

As per Pune Mirror reporters, the injured are Manisha Jadhav (owner of Shree Swami Samarth Kripa Snacks Centre), Deepak Singh (employee of the snacks center) and G K Khedkar, a  police constable present there on duty. The other three viz.  Mayur Solunkhe (teen), Sushant Ashok Salunke (18), Akshay Nandu Shinde (18) were customer or visitor in the ready to eat food hubs or book shops in the busy market place targeted as the place of blast.

“Police constable G K Khedkar was parking his two-wheeler when the bomb went off near by, and sustained injuries on his chest because of shrapnel. He said, “I had just parked my bike when the blast occurred. For moments, I could not comprehend what happened” as reported in Pune Mirror.

The reporting goes further that ”’I was in a state of shock till I realised I had been hurt.” Teenager and Dhanori resident Mayur Solunkhe, who was standing at the snack centre eating a vada pav when the incident occurred, also received splinter hits to his chest. He shared, “I heard a massive noise when it went off — it was extremely scary, everyone was shocked by the suddenness of it.”

Sushant Ashok Salunke (18), another survivor, was at a nearby bookstore, and received minor injuries due from splinters. He shared, “I had gone to buy a book when the bomb went off.”

Salunke and another Kothrud resident, Akshay Nandu Shinde, also 18, are currently admitted to the government-run Sassoon General Hospital. The patients were brought to the hospital on Thursday afternoon, and were said to be in a state of shock.”’

Senior police and ATS officials refused to give any further details about the incident.

Pune was rocked by four coordinated low-intensity explosions on August 1, 2012 which had left one person injured.

The city had come on the terror radar for the first tine when 17 people were killed and around 60 injured in a powerful blast at German Bakery, one of Pune’s favourite eateries, on February 13, 2010.

Home-grown terror outfit Indian Mujaheddin was blamed for both the attacks.

Meanwhile, a team from Mumbai Anti-terrorism Squad has been rushed to assist an ATS team already stationed in Pune in the probe.

Sources in Mumbai ATS said it was too early to conclude whether Thursday’s explosion was the handiwork of terrorists.

TOI reports that “Police suspect Indian Mujaheddin (IM) involvement in the blast due to its similarities with explosions in Pune earlier.

They have found traces of ammonium nitrate and seized nails and ball bearings from the blast site. The same material was used in the other two blasts along with RDX in the German bakery blast in February 2010.

Police are exploring whether the latest blast is a revenge attack for the recent murder of a youth and subsequent communal violence in which Hindu Rashtra Sena members were allegedly involved.”

Some one says to HE Media that an ISIS effect may come heavily anywhere these days of Ramadan. Muslim terror groups may attack  food plaza and favourite eateries to register their protest as Non-Muslims take foods openly by ignoring roja (fasting) timings on Ramadan.

An unspoken tension and fear grip the city as unusual. [with  input from PTI, PM and TOI].
