Priya Unnikrishnan | HENB | Kozhikode | Sept 23, 2016:: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president and BJP MP from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, Anurag Thakur ruled out any possibility of resumption of India-Pakistan cricketing ties after the recent Pakistan-backed terror attack on Uri. As many as 18 Indian soldiers were martyred in the surprise raid carried out by four terrorists, who had sneaked in from across the border. Thakur was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the party’s national council meeting that is set to begin here from Saturday.
“Priority is to expose Pak as country which sponsors terrorism. No question of playing cricket which such a nation,” Thakur said.
Pakistan cricketers have also not been allowed to participate in the cash-rich Indian Premier League since 2009. That has been a cause for heartburn with plenty of Pakistani players but the Indian government and the BCCI has not relented.
Asked whether India will play with Pakistan given the hostile relations the two nations have at the moment and the rising sentiments against Pakistan in the country, Thakur said, “There are no tests or bilateral matches scheduled for this year with Pakistan and the question of playing against Pakistan today does not arise.”

“We have defeated Pakistan in three wars and all the world cup cricket matches. We can still maul Pakistan. But it is important to isolate it globally,” he reiterated.
While hostilities between India and Pakistan have been rising for some time now and hence no cricket match is scheduled between the two countries, the BCCI president, who also represents the ruling BJP in the Lok Sabha made it amply clear that there would be no such occasion coming up soon.
He also talked about how India’s stand is being accepted by the world community. “There are two major issues in front of the world today — the sluggish economy which is affecting trade and terrorism. In the last financial year the world has suffered close to $60 billion loss. Apart from that India has suffered terrorism for the last three decades. The world is facing it now. They will have a better understanding on what India had gone through in the last so many years. That is why globally we are getting all the support, thanks to Modiji’s leadership,” he said.
