PNS | Lucknow | Aug 30, 2017:: RSS-affiliate Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) asked Muslims to refrain from animal sacrifice on Bakrid likely to be celebrated on September 2. Instead, the Manch advised that Muslims should sacrifice their ‘nafz’ or bad habits.
“Like Triple Talaq, animal sacrifice during Bakrid is a ‘kuriti’ (bad practice). The practice is performed only by those who are on Haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arab and there is no precedent of animal sacrifice by common Muslims during Bakrid. The practice during Bakrid is unislamic,’’ stressed Convenor of MRM Syed Hasan Kausar at a Press conference in Lukcnow on Tuesday.
“If Muslims want to sacrifice something during Bakrid, it should be their bad habits and weaknesses and not animals. They could also emulate sacrifice as done by Imam Hussain at Karbala. Muslims could also sacrifice goat cake on Bakrid,” suggested Kausar.
The MRM leader claimed that his organisation has nothing to do with the BJP and it was a political organisation.
“Lot of superstition prevails in Muslim society over animal sacrifice during Bakrid. Muslims claim to be following the path of Rs Imaan’ but they are misguided. The community is unaware that animal sacrifice is unislamic,’’ claimed Kausar.
Linking the issue with Ram temple at Ayodhya, the MRM leader questioned, “As per Koran, prayers can not be offered at a disputed place, so how can the Babri mosque be constructed at the disputed site at Ayodhya.’’
Earlier this month, the Manch had announced to launch a countrywide campaign to persuade Muslims against sacrificing cows on Bakrid with special focus on Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar.
The MRM had convened a meeting of ulemas (Islamic scholars) associated with the organisation in New Delhi which was presided over by senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar and a resolution was passed against cow slaughter.
Terming cow slaughter by Muslims as Rs haraam’, Kausar said, “The Prophet had described cow milk as medicine, its meat as disease which makes cow slaughter a violation of the sayings of the Prophet.’’
“We live in the 21st century and we will have to overcome superstitions and evil practices. Large scale illiteracy among Muslims was the root cause of prevalence of evil practices and once we are educated, we will shun these practices on our own,’’ said the MRM leader.
Citing a Fatwa by renowned Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband, Kausar said, “Our appeal against sacrificing of cows during Bakrid by Muslims is based on a fatwa issued by Darool Uloom Deoband four years ago. We asked the Islamic seminary whether hurting Hindu sentiments by sacrificing cows was sanctioned in Islam. They said Islam does not sanction hurting the sentiments of neighbours adhering to other beliefs.”
The MRM will organise a march from Lucknow to Ayodhya from September 11 which will culminate on September 17. The aim iss to mobilise support for construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya. During the Yatra, at least three programs for mobilising support for temple will be organized at every 25 km.
