Boycott film ‘Kedarnath’ promoting Love Jihad & vilifying Hindu Tirth. Case filed in Gujarat HC by Hindu Sena.

Petition filed in Gujarat High Court seeking ban on the film ‘Kedarnath’ for alleged propagation of Love Jihad in a backdrop of a Hindu Pilgrimage.

Amrita Srivastava | HENB | New Delhi | Nov 29, 2018:: After much ado, Abhishek Kapoor’s ‘Kedarnath’ starring Sushant Singh Rajput and debutant Sara Ali Khan is finally gearing up for the release on December 7. However, it seems the cast is no going have a smooth sail till their release as well.

According to reports, a right wing group on Wednesday moved to the Gujarat High Court seeking a ban on the release of ‘Kedarnath’ alleging that the movie promotes the concept of love-jihad. The report also stated that the petition has been filed by AntarRashtriya Hindu Sena on Wednesday and is likely to be taken up for a hearing next week. The petitioner has also claimed that the film shows a kissing scene at Kedarnath, a religious site of Hindus, which is unacceptable and affects religious sentiments. Hindu Sena demanded re-sensor of the film to cut away the objectionable scenes.

Sara Ali Khan’s debut film Kedarnath, also starring Sushant Singh Rajput, first  ran into serious trouble after a local organisation of priests  at Kedarnath as well as senior BJP leader alleged that the film promoted love jihad and hurt religious sentiments of Hindus. In an interaction with Mumbai Mirror, Khan expressed her surprise regarding the controversy and said that the film has nothing to do with love jihad.

Set on the 14-km pilgrimage from Gauri Kund to the the 2,000-year-old Kedarnath temple of Lord Shiva, the film revolves around the love story of a Muslim travel guide Mansoor (starred by Sushant Rajput) and a Hindu lady Pilgrim Mukku (starred by Sara Ali Khan), which occurs alongside happenings inspired by the 2013 Uttarkhand floods.

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Pragya Kapoor, Kedarnath is slated to release on 7 December.

The protesters of the film have also raised the matter of vilification of the rituals and customs maintained in Kedarnath as the film tried to show those in a bad light.

Prominent Hindu interlocutor and Hindu Existence Website Editor, Upananda Brahmachari welcomed the legal steps taken by AntarRashtriya Hindu Sena (International Hindu Sena) against the release of the film “Kedarnath” and challenged the Mumbai Producers and Directors to make a Love Story Film setting the background as Haj and Umrah or  in a set of Haji Ali or Ajmer Sharif.

“The backdrop of Kedarnath Hindu Pilgrimage and the devastating Uttarakhand flood in Kedarnath have been set to attract the Hindu people and the viewers of new generation. After that they will be preached with a Love Jihad story matured with a love of a Hindu girl and a Muslim Pony and Pithoo boy (travel guide cum Pony-wala). This is quiet unacceptable as the film tried to send an obnoxious message to the viewers, certainly under an Islamic conspiracy. Kedarnath is a Hindu Tirth (pilgrimage) and not a valley of love making or a mere tourist spot. The intention of the producer and the director of the film, ‘Kedarnath’ is clearly offensive. Even the Producer and Director of the film could not remind the great relief work of our Army in the Uttrakhand devastation. But, they delineated an absurd love story on it. We must boycott this film and Govt must put a restriction on the release of the disputed film to avoid law and order situation”, Brahmachari told HENB.

Brahmachari also questioned the role of BJP controlled Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for passing the Censor Certificates for such films like “Kedarnath”, “PK”, “Padmavaat”, “Love Ratri” and so on hurting the Hindu sentiments majorly. 

Many Hindu Right wing groups are now planning to file cases against the film “Kedarnath’ in different courts in many states to stop the release of the film on Dec 7th.
