The law enforcers were trying to identify the attackers and know their motive, the SP said.
Talking to journalists, the victim’s son Nirupom Tanchangya said three to four men intercepted the boat and shot his father at close range.
Tanchangyas are indigenous minority ethnic group living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh, who have been facing the threat of extinctions and eviction posed by various Jihadi groups linked with Rohingya Militancy.
The attack came a day after seven people including a presiding officer were shot dead by unidentified assailants. They were attacked when they were returning with ballot boxes after the conclusion of the voting process.
On Monday evening, unknown gunmen opened a hail of gunfire in Noymile area of Baghaichhari upazila, killing seven people, including two polling officials and four Ansar personnel.
The polling officials and security personnel were coming back to the upazila town from a polling centre at Sajek union during the second phase of upazila elections.
Parbattya Nagorik Committee President Goutam Dewan and the leaders of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) in separate statements condemned the killings of Monday and Tuesday and demanded that the attackers are punished immediately.
But, the law and order situations in Chittagong Hill Tracts areas and many places in Islamic Bangladesh have been grossly affected by militant activities of many extreme Political groups and Jihadi militants.
Minority, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and indigenous tribal people in Bangladesh are endangered by the insurgent Islamist groups increasing in the country, even in Awami League regime.
Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Wazed is completely failure to protect the minority security and rights in her country.
