Upananada Brahmachari | HENB | Haridwar | Nov 20, 2020:: A local Shiv Sena leader Nitin Nandgaonkar shared a video on Wednesday in which he can be seen asking the owner of a Mulund sweets shop named “Karachi Sweets” to change its name to something in Marathi.
This is the real pulse of Hindutva and Nationalism in every Shiv Sena activists running through their blood as the Hinduness and patriotism injected to them through the ideals of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Bala Saheb Thackeray. This pulse was not seen in RSS or BJP activists anyway as they have been tolerating the Karachi name in a sweets shop or a bakery.
The video taken in the western suburbs of Mumbai went viral on Thursday which sparked a political row. To keep refrained the Sena activists from putting much pressure on the owners of such Karachi Sweets or Karachi Bakery to delete the Karachi tag, the Sena leadership had to jump in the scene to keep fit the minds of Sena allies NCP and Congress.
As a strategy to keep up NCP & Cong mind jovial, the Sena was quick to distance itself and said that was not the party’s official stand. Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana editor and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut took to Twitter and said, “Karachi bakery and Karachi sweets have been in Mumbai since last 60 years. They have nothing to do with Pakistan. It makes no sense to ask for changing their names now. Demand for changing their name is not Shiv Sena’s official stance.” Here the difference between the mindset of proud Shiv Sainiks and supporters and the top leaders’ strategy for alliance politics is quiet clear.
The other day, I was struck with utter astonishment after seeing an editorial in Saamana. On 3rd Nov, 2020, the Saamana Editorial supported the stand of French President Emmanuel Macron for his prolific action taken against radical Muslims in France in the advent of Charlie Hebdo protest there. But, what dismayed all the readers of Saamana as the editorial glorified Islam, Quran and Prophet Muhammad in order to appease the Indian Muslim leaders connected with Indian National Congress (INC) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
In that Saamana editorial, Sanjay Raut wrote, “Prophet Muhammad is a symbol of peace, goodwill and patience. Killing his ideal, the so called followers of Muhammad, whatever doing are putting a big question with Islam….”
The editorial continues as, “The direction of slitting throats is not in Quran, nor that is instructed by Prophet Muhammad. Almighty has sent his prophets time to time according to the need of time for showing the right path. Among these Prophets, Saliballah Basallam Muhammad is the last prophet for the entire humanity. There will be no Prophet to come further. Hence, according the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, that should be respected and accepted till the end of the society for all the human beings”.
Reading it, I rushed to Mumbai to get the matter whether Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has already been converted to Islam or how is the common Shiv Sainik’s reaction on it.
In Mumbai, I interviewed 100 Shiv Sainik in various places like Dadar Chowpatty, Parel, Bandra, Mahim, Goregaon, Santacruz, Khar, Vashi Gaon etc. and 94 of them treated the editorial as a false propaganda for Islam, Ouran or Muhammand as most the Shiv Sainiks held Islam, Quran and Muhammad as bestiality and barbaric things. They all requested me to believe in the strategy of Chattarpati Shivaji’s sweet words to kill Afzal Khan with a Bagh Nakh (Tiger Claw- a sharp & secret weapon) taking out from garments.
Five of the interviewees doubted me whether I was a BJP agent! But, One Tawde Kaka helped me what’s in the blood of Shiv Sainiks in fine.
The devout Shiv Sainik (Tawde Kaka of Vashi Gaon) described Raut as a ‘Mad’ without any knowledge about Islam and he showed me a Quran instantly taking out from his Shoulder Bag indicating Quran 9:5 where it was clearly mentioned, “And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful”.
When asked what would be the reaction of Balasaheb Thackeray. If alive, on such pro-Islamic editorial in Saamana, Tawde Kaka replied, “Aaple Saheb slapped Sanjay on his face and certainly inserted his pen into his back for such praising notes for Muslims”. On his lecturing against Sanjay Raut, other Shiv Sainiks rented the air, “Chatrapati Shvijavi Maharaj yancha Vijay aso, Hindu Hruday Samrat Bala Saheb Thackeray yancha Vijay aso, Aaple Shiv Sena yancha Vijay aso. Jai Bhawani. Jai Shivaji – Victory for King Shivaji, Victory for Bal Thackeray, Victory for Shiv Sena. Hail Mother Bhawani, Hail King Shivaji ” and so on.
Actually, Shiv Sena leadership has failed to assess the public reaction of unnatural Sena-NCP-Congress alliance instead of its previous as Sena-BJP natural alliance.
But, the broken family of BJP-Sena caused a fissure in the Hindutva politics in Maharashtra which was remotely relinquished by the both Sena and BJP leadership but regretted by the majority foot soldiers of both the parties meant for Hindutva as it was.
In this row of the battle of words, when BJP cautioned Sena to keep its Saffron Flag pure+ and sacred; Shiv Sena threatened BJP to erase the later from upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election+.
What’s this? I am to request both the parties not to demean and malign each other.
As a matter of fact, Uddhav Thackeray proved his efficiency to tackle the emergent NCP-Congress supremacy in Mumbai and Maharashtra being the Chief Minister of the state.
Uddhav and Shiv Sena gave a clear message to Fadnavis and BJP that there should be no place of monopoly in the politics of alliance. But, that too jeopardize the dream of Balasaheb as Sena ought to shake hands with anti-Hindu NCP and Congress in an odd turn of politics.
Really, this was an unfortunate turn in Hindutva Politics in India as well as Maharashtra as BJP distanced with Sena for the demand of Chief-Minister-ship of Fadnavis in a very obstinate style. Otherwise, Fadnavis would have been Deputy CM of Maharashtra by this time upto Nov 2021 and then CM of Maharashtra from December 2021 for rest three years.
But, alas, the strategy of Shah, Shelar & RSS ruined the Hindutva politics in Maharashtra and gave a chance to Congress and NCP to reach near the power again. If there was the Hindutva coalition between Sena and BJP intact, the Karachi Sweets or Bakery issued would be settled otherwise and no praise for Islam could not be able to pollute the pages of Saamana.
But, one thing which is discovered in my Mumbai trip in recent can’t be surpassed anyway.
While majority BJP supporters in Mumbai think that Sena-BJP re-alliance is difficult but not remote; the majority Sena supporters still aspire the reunion of Sena-BJP at least to throw away the anti-Hindu NCP-Congress elements from the Shiv Sena politics.
I also hope the BJP-Sena reunion will shape once again and ultimately for the sake of Hindutva Politics in Maharashtra and in India.
Both the field soldiers of BJP and Shiv Sena still believe in united Hindutva politics, but the Leaders of BJP & SS are frying their political eggs in the Hindutva frying pan and that too much frying will spoil the cooking undoubtedly.
The top BJP and Shiv Sena leaders must understand it well and not to fail to read the wall writing.
It is written in the wall, “Bring Back the Glorious Days of Sena-BJP Alliance of Hindutva Politics Once Again.”
Alok Deshpande | The Hindu Online | Mumbai | Nov 20, 2020:: As the tripartite Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government nears one year in office, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its anti-government stand with focus on Hindutva and attempts to paint its former ally Shiv Sena as anti-Hindu.
Unperturbed by these attacks, Sena on Thursday said people in Mumbai and Maharashtra know who is the flag-bearer of ‘pure saffron’.
Former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, while launching the BJP’s Mission Mumbai on Wednesday, had said that his party will turn the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) into ‘pure saffron’ by dethroning Sena in 2022. For months now, the State unit of the BJP has been targeting Sena over issues related to Hindutva.
Meanwhile, the video of a little-known Sena leader Nitin Nandgaonkar, asking the owner of the famous Karachi sweet shop in the western suburbs of Mumbai to remove the word Karachi from its name, went viral on Thursday, kicking up a row in political circles. The Sena was quick to distance itself and said this was not the party’s official stand. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut took to Twitter and said, “Karachi bakery and karachi sweets have been in mumbai since last 60 years. They have nothing to do with Pakistan. It makes no sense to ask for changing their names now. Demand for changing their name is not shivsena’s official stance.”
Two months back, it held protests across the State demanding reopening temples. A newly-formed spiritual front of the BJP alleged that the Sena-led MVA government wants to open wine shops but not temples. BJP MLA Ram Kadam also recently demanded a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation into the lynching of two seers and their driver in Palghar district. The government’s decision to not allow chhath puja amid the corona pandemic is also being labelled by the BJP as anti-Hindu.
The Sena on the other hand has chosen not to counter the BJP except occasionally. Mr. Raut on Thursday left it to the people of the State to decide who carries the pure saffron flag. “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and late Balasaheb Thackeray were sensitive about saffron flag. Adulterated saffron flag will never fly high on the BMC,” said Mr. Raut.
Swapnil Rawal | Hindustan Times Online | Mumbai | Nov 20, 2020:: Hitting out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over a remark that Shiv Sena’s saffron flag needs ‘purification’, the latter said that BJP has no connection with the saffron flag. An editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana said the saffron flag of Shiv Sena is fluttering atop the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for over three decades and dared BJP to remove it.
The allies-turned-rivals – BJP and Shiv Sena – are warming up to an intense fight for control over the BMC, the richest civic body in the country, which goes to polls in early 2022. Sounding the poll bugle on Wednesday, Devendra Fadnavis said the BJP will take control of the BMC after February 2022. BJP leader Ashish Shelar remarked that Sena’s saffron flag needs purification after it abandoned Hindutva to ally with Congress and Nationalist Congress Party last November.
“BJP leaders did not say they hoisted saffron flag in Bihar after their recent win. It is because they are not connected to the saffron flag. They got connected to the saffron flag after allying with the Shiv Sena. It is fluttering on Mumbai [civic body] since the time BJP was not with Shiv Sena. This saffron flag is pure, radiant and effective,” the editorial said on Friday.
It added that though the BJP has inducted the descendants of Maratha warrior king Shivaji in their party, the saffron flag of Shivaji still belongs to Marathi people. “The ones who are plotting to remove the original saffron flag of Marathi pride and Hindu radiance are betraying Hindutva in the country,” the editorial added.
On Thursday, Sanjay Raut, Sena’s chief spokesperson and a member of the Rajya Sabha (RS), took the battle to the opposition BJP’s camp. Taking a veiled dig at actor Kangana Ranaut, he told media persons in Delhi that Mumbaikars would never hand over control of BMC to a party which backs people who had insulted Mumbai and equated it to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
