TNND | Lucknow | May 20, 2022:: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya took a dig at Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav’s controversial remarks on temples and called him ‘drunk in appeasement politics.’ “Drunk in the politics of alleged appeasement, Akhilesh Yadav ji has forgotten the essence of Sanatan Hinduism,” Keshav Prasad Maurya tweeted on Thursday.
Notably, SP leader, Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday while talking to reporters in Ayodhya said that in Hindusim, a temple could be made anywhere by placing a stone and installing a red flag. “In our Hinduism, place a stone anywhere, install a red flag there, under a peepul (fig) tree, and it becomes a temple,” he said while speaking on the Gyanvapi mosque row.
Keshav Prasad Maurya further noted that Akhilesh Yadav’s ‘distaste for Hinduism is not a new thing.’

BJP state unit spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi also called the SP chief’s remarks an ‘insult to the Hindus.’ “It seems Akhilesh Yadav ji did not learn any lesson from the recent election results. His statements are an insult to Hindus,” Tripathi said.
Tripathi further raised questions on whether Akhilesh Yadav would dare to make a similar statement about mazaar. “Would he (Akhilesh Yadav) dare to make a statement like ‘make a mazaar anywhere, drape it with a sheet, and a religious place is ready’. He can’t even dare to say such a thing. He cannot dare to speak a word against Islam,” Tripathi added.
On the other hand, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Anurag Bhadauria defended Akhilesh Yadav’s statements and lashed out at BJP claiming the party indulges in ‘politics over religion.’ “Dozens of temples and 300 houses were demolished in Varanasi (for the Kashi Vishwanath corridor). The BJP demolishes temples. The SP respects the courts and the constitution. The BJP does politics over religion,” Bhadauria said.
