Now, demand for allowing Hindus to pray at Srirangapatna mosque as claimed constructed on the ruins of a Hanuman Temple.

B Upendran | HENB | Mandya | May 21, 2022:: In the wake of the controversies over Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque, the Hindutvava organisations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have sought for the videography survey and excavation of Jamia Masjid at Srirangapatna on Friday.

The twin right wing organisations have urged the Deputy Commissioner in an appeal that a mosque was built by demolishing Shri Anjaneyaswami temple at the entrance of the Srirangapatna fort in AD 1787 by Tipu Sultan while citing page no. 493, 494 of Mysore State gazetteer.

In an alarming note, the appeal urged that the prayers, madrasas and other activities of the mosque be taken to a standstill while requesting for the removal of people residing in the mosque for carrying out the excavation.

The appeal also warned of the possible protests that will be held if the excavations are not permitted.

The appeal is  included, “requesting permission for Hindus to offer prayers inside the Srirangapatna mosque in the city”.

The mosque is a protected place by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) looks after and is located at a distance of around 130 kilometres from the Bengaluru.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad district secretary C K Balakrishna, co-secretary Puneeth, incorporator Basavaraju, retired ASP Balaramegowda, Damadahalli D K Keshava, Shrikanthaswamy and others were present while submitting the appeal.

Earlier, another pro Hindutva group, Narendra Modi Vichar Manch placed the same appeal to the District administration to allow Hindu Puja in the mosque as it was built upon a Hindu temple by destroying its nature.

Film star turned a Hindu seer, Rishi Kumar Swami of Kali mutt claimed on Thursday that the Jamia mosque in Srirangapatna was built on the site of a Hanuman temple, which was razed to make way for the mosque. “There are emblems of the erstwhile Hoysala kingdom inside the mosque,” he claimed.

As per available report, Sri ram Sena Chief is planning to start a campaign on this to revive the Hindutva movement in the region which is traditionally stronghold of the dominant Vokkaliga community and bastion of JD(S) in current times.

In the meanwhile some islamically influenced Dalit groups demanded ban on the entry of  Rishikumar Swamy and Pramod Mutalik in the region to avert a greater Hindutva movement there with the help of like minded Hindu organizations.

I will be grateful if someone in your organisation will communicate with me personally.

There is much work to be done and I wish to make my little contribution to the very necessary discussion.
