Why the Kerala Censor Board restricting a film on Malabar Hindu Genocide in Moplah Rebellion?

RSS supports Malayalam film on ‘Malabar Hindu Genocide’, says ‘gross injustice to order cuts in period film’

The director of Malayalam film ‘Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare’ has reportedly said that the cuts would amount to whitewashing the brutality that was witnessed and experienced by Hindus during the Malabar Genocide of Hindus by Moplah Muslims.

TN National Desk | Thiruvananthapuram | Sept 6, 2022::  The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has come out in support of the movie director of upcoming Malayalam film ‘Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare’ (from River to River) for which the Censor Board has recommended several cuts. RSS leader J Nandakumar has backed director Ali Akbar, stating it’s a gross injustice to ask the filmmaker to delete references to historical events from a period drama.

Ali Akbar, who changed his name to Ramasimhan Aboobakker after reconverting to Hinduism, has expressed disappointment over CBFC’s move to order several cuts in the period film. The director has reportedly said that the cuts would amount to whitewashing the brutality that was witnessed and experienced by Hindus during the Malabar Genocide of Hindus by Moplah Muslims.

Nandakumar took to Twitter on Tuesday and pointed out that in the part the Kerala wing of the Censor Board of Film Certification has cleared many films that sought to divide the society on communal and caste grounds.

“Censor Board Kerala has approved a hell of a lot of feature films promoting social communalism and racism that seek to divide society on the lines of caste. It has certified films like JanaGanaMana and Puzhu, which pushed Islamist narrative of Indian democracy & Hindu society. During the tenure of the present Censor Board Kerala regional officer, a slew of anti-national, seditious and communal movies managed to get certification without ‘censoring’,” the RSS leader tweeted.

“JanaGanaMana, which contains seditious remarks about Govt and Constitution got certificate. How? JanaGanaMana says ‘Not only notes, even votes will be banned in India!’,” he added.

Nandakumar alleged that a majority of the films made and released in Kerala have a political purpose and are the handiworks of either Islamists or Communists who want to divide society. He said such movies contain malicious and disgusting remarks against the BJP and the Centre.

“The same regional board has rejected certification for ‘Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare’, a movie based on Malabar Hindu Genocide. It’s gross injustice to ask director to remove historical references from a period film. Each incident featured in the movie is well recorded in history,” the RSS leader said further.

He further alleged that the cuts in the movie have been ordered thanks to the petty politics by certain officials who act like a cardholding member of the ruling CPI(M). The political patrons of the CPI(M) also are to be blamed for this, he added.

“When other countries make films on genocides at state’s expense, here a director-producer’s years long efforts are reduced to ashes… ‘Puzha Muthal Puzha Vare’ is a people’s initiative, a film made with crowd funding. Since the movie doesn’t contain anything anti-national or anti-constitutional or communal, the Kerala board has no rights to reject it. It’s a democracy and not a Communist-Islamist utopia,” he stated further.

As per details available, the Kerala Censor Board has refused to give certification to the film and it referred the movie to CBFC for a Revising Committee review. The film director also suspects the role of the PFI in delaying issuance of certification to the movie.

It may be noted that the RSS-affiliated Prajna Pravah organisation had last year raised the demand for the Moplah Rebellion of 1921 to be termed a genocide. It had also asked for a memorial to be set up in memory of those who had died during that set of events. RSS leader J Nandakumar is associated with the Prajna Pravah organisation.

The killers of Hindus on Indian soil can not be accepted. This is and was
possible due to the Congressy-Nehru anti-Hindu constitution. The anti-Hindus
must be wiped out. In Akhand Bharat there can be no place for those who
are against the DEVIS/DEVTAS civilization. This can not be changed by internal
nor by external enemies. This is the voice of Sri Hanuman Seva Sena.
