5000 devotees participated in Shrimad Bhagavad Gita Recitation at Mayapur.

Unique Gita Recitation at Shri Dham Mayapur by 5000 devotees in a first in West Bengal.   

Memorandum written to President of India, Droupadi Murmu requesting her to declare  ‘Shrimad Bhagavad-Gita’ as the National Book of India.   

Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | Mayapur (WB) | Dec 5, 2022:: With high veneration amidst divine grace and spiritual exaltation, the gita-yajna is performed at Shridham Mayapur while 5000 devotees took part in the holy recitation of  verses from Shrimad Bhagavad-Gita on December 5, 2022.  A yajna (fire sacrifice) also took place and devotees took part in actively in the recitation from the chapters I, II,  XII, XV & XVIII of Shrimad Bhagavad-Gita. In a first, the State of West Bengal experienced such mammoth Gita recitation programme where more than 100 Sanatan Hindu organisations including Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Ramakrishna Mission and various sect of Goudiya Missions joined under the leadership of Mayapur ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) and Sanatan Sanskriti Sangshad. 

More than 5000 years ago, on the battlefield of Kuruksetra, the  Lord Shri Krishna delivered the most confidential and topmost knowledge of devotional service in the form of the Bhagavad-gita to His dearmost devotee Arjuna, and to humanity at large, in order to help all devotees understand the purpose of life and the way to surrender to Him for achieving the success and the supreme attainment in the life by defeating all evil forces to establish a Dharma Rajya and World Peace.

Many senior monks, saints and dignitaries of reputation graced the occasion. The international Chief of ISKCON Shrila Prabhupad Jaypataka Swami was also present in the function for showering his divine blessings for all, after the programme was started by the Mangalacharan by legendary Sanskrit Pandit Dr Kumar Nath Bhattacharya. 

Large participation of Matrushakti in the programme has marked as the women empowerment in the religious sphere of West Bengal.

Before performing yajna and recitation of Gita, the holy Sudarshan Chakra, a copy of Gita As It Is and an idol of Prabhpada AC Bhakti Siddhanta Swami Prabhupada were brought in the yajnasthali (the place of fire sacrifice) with Sankirtana procession.

The well decorated arrangements, discipline  and punctuality of the programme have drawn the attention in large scale. 

The organizers narrated the programme as a starting point for exercising the principles of Gita in daily life to protect the individual and social strature through a spiritual revival in Bengal. The organizers also declared their plan to conduct Gita classes in very corners of Bengal for peace and harmony.    

The participants of the programme were facilitated with certificates of honor by the organisers. On behalf of Sadhu Samaj, Swami Pradiptananda Maharaj of Bharat Sevashram Sangha read out a memorandum written to President of India, Droupadi Murmu requesting her to declare  ‘Shrimad Bhagavad-Gita’ as the National Book of India. He also demanded to include Gita in school curriculum for character building of the students to be good citizen of India. 

Two revered Mahamandaleshwars namely Swami Tejasananda Ji Maharaj of Bhola Giri Math and Swami Paramatmananda Ji Maharaj of Bengal Maha Nirvani Akhada ad Bandhu Gaurav Maharaj of  Mahanam Sampradaya also graced the occasion. 

Swami Nirgunananda Maharaj conducted the Gita Path as mantrahota and whole programme was well conducted by Jagadartiha Prabhu of ISKCON.

As per Jagadartiha Prabhu, 5326 participants and 233 monks, saints and dignitaries took part in this grand Gita Jajna programme.
