Kalaburagi railway station gets its original white look from green after Hindutva protests.

Karnataka: Green railway station repainted White under protest by Hindu organisations. But who changed its original White look into Green?  

According to the protesting Hindutva groups, the dome shaped Kalaburagi railway station with green walls gives an impression of a ‘mosque.’ 

B Upendran | HENB | Kalaburagi | Dec 13, 2022:: The Kalaburagi railway station (in Central Railways), formerly known as Gulbarga railway station, was repainted to white from green on Tuesday, after pressure from the right-wing Hindu organisations like  Hindu Jagaran Vedike and Sri ram Sena.

The railway station came under scanner on Tuesday when sections of Hindutva groups protested outside the station demanding a change of colour.

Pro-Hindu organisations started  protesting  for the immediate removal of the green paint at 11.30 am in front of the railway station in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi.

According to them, the dome shape railway station with green walls gives an impression of a ‘mosque.’ They warned that if the green colour was not removed within 15 days, the total railway station would be painted in saffron colour.

Soon after the protest, scenes of painters repainting the walls of the station white were recorded.

Actually from records it is seen that the Kalabuargi Staion was painted in white even in 2015 as it is revealed by a video captured by one Sayyed Sohail (as shown below)  in YouTube. But the Station was painted in green after pandemic period as said.

Lakshmikantha Sadhwi, a Hindu activist stated that the railway station building “must be painted with any colour other than green. The yellow and red colours of the Kannada flag could also be used. Otherwise, the railway building will be painted with saffron colour”.

Talking to the media about this, Sri Ram Sena state president Siddalinga Swamiji said that it is condemnable that the railway officials were trying to please a religion by giving a green colour look of Kalaburagi Rly Station.

The authorities maintained that the painting was taken up on the orders of higher authorities. The painting was done based on the suggestion of architects.
