As ‘BJP sidelined Hindutva, Sri Rama Sene chief wants to contest Karnataka election.

To correct BJP’s Hindutva, Sri Ram Sena may contest in several seats in Karnataka Assembly Election in 2023.

Promod MutalikB Upendran | HENB | Mangaluru | Nov 18, 2022:: Disappointed with the BJP’s Hindutva stand in Karnata, Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik is planning to enter the electoral arena in Karnataka to ‘correct’ the BJP which, he says, has sidelined its Hindutva agenda.

Pramod Muthalik is considered as an iconic face in the Hindutva movement in Karnataka who was connected with RSS and Bajrang dal before he founded Sri Ram Sena in the year 2006.

Addressing reporters in Udupi on Saturday, Muthalik said he wants to represent the voice of Hindus in the state assembly and will announce his candidature and the constituency by this month-end. The upcoming Karnataka Legislative Assembly election is scheduled to be held in or before May 2023 to elect all 224 members of the state’s Legislative Assembly.

Muthalik said he has conducted surveys in around eight assembly constituencies and will finalise the segment in which he would be contesting soon. Karkala in Udupi district, represented by state Energy Minister V Sunil Kumar, is one among the prospective constituencies.

The right-wing outfit chief alleged that Sunil Kumar is behind the foisting of false cases against him and other Sene activists. The BJP appears to be on the same line as Congress which always tried to demean Hindu workers, he claimed. On the other hand, many Hindutva workers have been murdered by the Jihadi outfits for which BJP Govt in Karnataka has failed to give justice to the victim families.

Apart from Karkala, the constituencies of Sringeri, Belagavi South, Dharwad and Terdal, Jamkhandi (Bagalkote) are also being considered for contesting the poll, he said.

Muthalik charged that hundreds of Hindu activists have been put in jail after branding them as ‘rowdy-sheeters’ by the police. If the BJP government is not ready to change their stand against Hindu workers, they will lose the support of the Hindu majority, he claimed. As Sri Ram Sena has been concted with various Hindutva movements against Love Jihad, Conversion and Halal, the organisation has a mass base which can earn a vote share on its own.

BJP and its NDA (national Democratic Alliance) have a  majority with 119 seats in total out of  224 seats in Karanataka Assembly. But a division of Hindutva vote bank may cause a harm to BJP’s control in the state power if Sri Ram Sena enters in the election politics as an opposition to the BJP anyway.

As Sri Ram Sena is not registered as a Political Party so far, the candidates under the affiliation of Sri Ram Sena have to contest as independent candidates with different symbols as available per election rules.
