B Upendran | HENB | Bengaluru | April 2, 2023:: In an unpleasant incident reported from Sathanur in Ramanagara district of Karnataka, a ‘mafia-like’ cattle trader was murdered in a group clash allegedly by cow vigilantes on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Idrees Pasha who had enmity with the Hindutva groups for his challenging attitude to run ‘illegal cow-trading’ at any cost to hurt the Hindus.
Based on family allegations from the deceased’s family, one of the prime suspects in the case has been identified as Puneet Kerehalli, who has been booked by police among others.
Tension prevailed in Sathanur when a family member of Idrees Pasha, who was transporting cattle was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Saturday.
Later, the family members protested with the dead body demanding action against cow vigilantes led by Puneet Kerehalli. Pasha’s family has alleged that Puneet had demanded Rs 2 lakh to release the victim or else he would kill him.
According to FIR, the cow vigilante group reportedly intercepted the Pasha’s vehicle with cattle. Though Idrees Pasha said he had bought the cattle from the local market and had documents with him, the cow vigilantes were not satisfied with the documents and held those as ‘fake’. Then, Pasha was allegedly abused by Gorakshak Puneeth and asked to go to Pakistan to run such a cattle business hurting Hindu sentiments. He later chased Pasha and assaulted him resulting in severe injuries to the victim. Pasha later succumbed to his injuries.
Getting alerted, police reached the spot and pacified the agitated family members to hand over the body for post-mortem.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case of murder under IPC Sections 302, 341 (wrongful restrain), and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace).
Many sources confirmed that the rift between illegal cow smuggling rackets in Karnataka and the pro-Hindutva Cow vigilantes group caused such an incident which shows a boil in the state concerning the law and order situation.
Police are yet to confirm any direct involvement of Puneet Kerehalli with the murder of Idrees Pasha. A probe is going on.
Cow vigilantes had registered many allegations against Pasha on illegal cow trading and smuggling; still, the police did not take any action, as told by a team member of Karnataka Kranti Goraksha Dal.
