Ailing Mother of Chinmoy Krishna Das Appeals to Bangladesh PM: “Baba, Let Me See My Son Once Before I Die.”

Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | New Delhi | Aug 9, 2026:: An ailing mother of detained Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari has made an emotional appeal to Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, urging him to allow her to see her son while she is still alive.

The elderly woman, who is suffering from cancer and is undergoing treatment at a cancer hospital in Chattogram, is reportedly in deteriorating health. Bedridden and visibly frail, she addressed the Prime Minister as “Baba” (Father) and appealed for an opportunity to meet her son, expressing her wish to have him beside her during what she fears may be her final days.

The appeal was featured by Sanatan TV, whose footage shows Chinmoy Prabhu’s mother speaking from her hospital bed. The accompanying Bengali caption identifies her as the mother of the detained monk and highlights her appeal to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Chinmoy Krishna Das Has Remained in Custody Since November 2024

Chinmoy Krishna Das was detained in Dhaka on November 25, 2024, in connection with a sedition case. A Chattogram court subsequently denied him bail and sent him to jail. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the case relates to allegations that a saffron flag was hoisted above Bangladesh’s national flag at a rally in Chattogram.

Supporters of Chinmoy Krishna Das have described the case as politically motivated and false. However, the allegations remain matters for the Bangladeshi courts to determine. His legal troubles have also expanded beyond the original sedition case. In May 2026, The Daily Star reported that Chinmoy was facing eight cases, including sedition and the murder case concerning lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, while several bail applications had been rejected.

The continued detention has therefore remained a matter of concern among sections of Bangladesh’s Hindu minority and Chinmoy’s supporters.

A Mother’s Last Wish

Against this backdrop, his mother’s deteriorating health has added a deeply personal dimension to the prolonged legal proceedings. Her appeal is essentially a plea for compassion: she wants to see her son once more and, if possible, have him beside her during her final moments.

Her direct appeal to the Prime Minister raises a poignant question: Will the government respond to the request of an elderly cancer patient who wishes only to see her detained son?

The question has particular significance because Chinmoy Krishna Das became a prominent voice for Hindu minority rights in Bangladesh following the political upheaval of 2024. His detention subsequently became a major issue for sections of the country’s barely minority Hindu community.

Questions Over the Future of Chinmoy’s Case

The political circumstances in Bangladesh have since changed considerably. The BNP, led by Tarique Rahman, came to power in the February 2026 election, and Tarique Rahman is now Bangladesh’s Prime Minister.

Sections of the Hindu minority had hoped that the change in government would lead to a fresh approach to Chinmoy Krishna Das’s detention and potentially facilitate his release. However, no such release has occurred, and his legal proceedings continue under Jihadi pressure.

For Chinmoy’s mother, however, the issue has moved beyond politics and legal arguments. Her deteriorating health has transformed the matter into an intensely human appeal from a mother who fears that she may not have much time left.

Her message to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is simple and deeply emotional: she wants to see her son while she is still alive. Whether that appeal will receive a response remains to be seen.
