HK Media | Guruvayur | January 12, 2016:: The Central Tourism Ministry is in the process of declaring Sabarimala and Guruvayur temples in Kerala under the PRASAD scheme, meant for developing pilgrimage centres, Union Minister Mahesh Sharma said today. The Centre’s decision comes following a request put in by BJP state president Kummanam Rajashekharan.
“We have already cleared Padmanabhaswamy temple. Consideration of Guruvayur and Sabarimala in PRASAD scheme is under consideration. Hopefully it will be done. We are in the process of declaring both the places,” said Tourism and Culture Minister Sharma while addressing the press.
The Minister added that he would soon be visiting Sabarimala temple in Kerala, having already visited Guruvayur temple.
Sharma said he was in Kerala on Monday, but could not pay obeisance to the Lord as he was advised against the same owing to heavy rush and that his visit would “disturb” the sacred scenario.
As many as 13 cities– namely Ajmer, Amritsar, Amravati, Dwarka, Gaya, Kamakhaya, Kanchipuram, Kedarnath, Mathura, Patna, Puri, Varanasi and Velankanni — have been identified for development under Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spirituality Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) by the Ministry of Tourism.
