Anti-Hindu TMC forces to construct modern abattoir near Vaishnava Samadhi. Nabadwip Hindus protest.

Hindu Monks protest construction of slaughterhouse near Vaishnava Samadhis at Nabadwip. But, TMC leaders, Municipality Chairman, MLA, Minister all are ready to run it!

Upananda Brahmachari | HENB | Nabadwip | Aug 12, 2017:: The Hindu monks associated with International Society For Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Bharat Sevashram Sangha and 25 other Vaishnab Maths and organizations from Mayapur, Nabadwip and Swarupganj have made an appeal before union home minister Rajnath Singh to stop a Rupees 4-crore centre-state jointly funded ‘abattoir’ (slaughter house) being constructed for Nabadweep Municipality on the banks of river Ganga in Nabadwip town as they alleged that it would violate the sanctity of the holy town and also pollute the river Ganga.

Nabadwip is considered as one of the holiest places for Hindus being the birth place of Mahaprabhu Sri Chaitanya, the incarnation of universal love and non-violence. Setting of a modernized slaughter house for Halal is naturally hurting the sentiments of common Hindus and devoute followers of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

The Monks held a conference  at Gita Bhwan in ISKCON on 6^th August, where they decided to launch strong agitation against the local civic bodies which recently decided to speed up the construction of a slaughter house in front of Prabhupad Tinkori Goswami’s Samadhi (holy grave) in the Teghari Para area under Ward no 19 of Nabadwip Municipality.

On hearing the displeasure of the monks, the local TMC MLA and state minister Ujjal Biswas rushed to the ISKCON Gita Bhawan and assured the monks that he would not let anyone to set up a slaughter house in such a holy place.

The close associate of CM Mamata Banerjee, Sri. Ujjal Biswas apprised the monks that no money has been allotted by the state govt  for the project. In fact, a vegetable market will be constructed on the construction site, he said. Biswas assured that there will be no slaughter house in front of Tinkori Goswami Samadhi and he has already instructed the District Magistrate Nadia to take necessary steps in this regard, said Sri. Subrato Biswas, Media Co-coordinator of ISCKON, Mayapur.

But, on the very next day, the local MLA and Mamata banerjee’s minister changed her version and that was reflected in TOI. dt. Aug 8, 2017, where a report was reflected as, “Nabadwip civic body refuses to call off slaughterhouse project“.

TOI reported, “The fate of the project, approved by the Centre in 2014 and for which Rs 15 lakh or 10% of the promised 60% central funds have already been disbursed, became uncertain after state minister Ujjal Biswas reportedly suggested at a meeting of local religious heads a day before in Mayapur that a wholesale vegetable market could be built at the same spot.

“However, the municipality and the local Trinamool MLA are refusing to buckle in, saying the abattoir is being built only to stop open slaughter of animals on Nabadwip streets.

Biman Krishna Saha, chairperson of the Trinamool-controlled municipality, said: “I have received no instruction from the Nadia district magistrate or from my party leadership to stop the construction of the slaughterhouse. I intend to finish construction quickly and inaugurate it soon. Until Didi (chief minister Mamata Banerjee) says so, work will not be stopped.”

Seeing this somersault of TMC Minister, the angered civil society again hold a meeting on 9^th August with the Monks and took a vow to stop the slaughter house in the holy birth place of Lord Sri Chaitanya. Thousands of youths of Nabadwip once again were seen in the name of Lord Shri Chaitanya to prevent any unholy work in the holy land of Nabadwip.

In his inaugural address at the meeting, Bhakti Vichar Bharati Maharaj of Sanatan Goswami Gaudiya Math, Mayapur, condemned the plan for setting up a slaughter house on the holy land of Nabadwip. He appealed to the State Govt. to stop the abattoir immediately as it will pollute the holy river Ganga and hurt the sentiments of millions of Hindus.

Bhakti Sadhan Tatpar Maharaj of Rupanuga Bhajan Kutir too requested the concerned Govt to prevent a most objectionable slaughter house on the birth place of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who was the preacher of  non-violence and universal love.

The Common Hindus of  Mayapur, Nabadwip and Swarupganj are vehemently protesting the construction of an abattoir  near a Samadhi (holy grave) of a Vaishnava saint adjacent to Ganga river at Manipur Road in ward no 19 of Nabadwip Municipality. The slaughter-house will have a capacity for slaughtering 50 large animals (cow, ox, Buffalo) and at least 100 small animals (sheep, goat) in halal method under its 8 hours daily operation. Local MLA and Municipality Chairman both from TMC are backing the abattoir project.

Jagadartihar Das, head of ISKCON run Dham Seba Samity told HENB: “It is an appeal before the conscience to the administration to reconsider their decision keeping in mind Nabadweep’s holy identity as a pilgrimage. Such slaughter house in holy places like Puri, Vrindaban, Haridwar or Tirupathy could never be seen. We in the same way do not want it in Nabadweep in the holy birth place of Lord Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and the seat of Vaishnavite education and Culture.”

Swami Bashisthananda, a monk representative of Bharat Sevashram Sangha’s Nabadweep unit told HENB: “It is unacceptable to allow bloodshed near to the Samadhis of Vaishnav saints Tinkori Goswami since the site is very near to it, there are other holy samadhis adjacent to that land of construction. Moreover a slaughter house on the birth place of Lord Shri Chaitanya, who was icon of non-violence, is totally unacceptable”.

In a latest development, while some section of the aggrieved Hindus are being ready to knock the door of the Court of Justice, the supporters of BJP and Sangha Parivar has called a big protest rally in Nabadwip Dham on  17^th  August, where BJP Central leader Kailash Vijayvargyia and State BJP President Dilip Ghosh and others are likely to attend.
